Magyvermcb's 93 yj project

hey guys, I wanted to create this project thread so maybe i can get some help or suggestions when im working on this yj.

I bought it for $2000 from the White Haven area. the old lady who sold it to me never had this thing offroad.. I drove it home no problems.. still runs like a beast..

what Ive noticed it needs:

Full tune up
new engine gasket (I think its the valve cover gasket)
new front passenger wheel bearing
leaf springs
shocks
rear frame work... rot -__-
driver side floor board

what I plan on doing as money is saved:

skyjacker 3" or 4" suspension lift
fixing the rear frame
custom make stainless mirror brackets that will accommodate kc lights (they will mount to the windshield frame)
31" or 33" tires not sure what I want to do about wheels yet
attaching my cb radio up
herculine or por 15 the floor
hitch
front bumper to accommodate a winch and D links

what Ive done so far:

got two free older kc lights. bead blasted them and sprayed them semi gloss black. rewired them and put new hardware on them.
ripped the old carpet out and as a temp fix... I wire wheeled the floors and primed them so i can leave my bikini top on when it rains and it wont rust more.

here are a few picks when i got it home

sorry about the delay in this project updates haha.

heres what Ive gotten done..

I got it on a lift on Monday... unfortunately my purchase was a bad purchase.. I #@$%&* up! I didn't look at the jeep as good as I should've.. I found out on Monday the frame is none existent in the rear... and the mounts are shot... also the frame is rotted out where the steering box is mounted.. (steering box is barely held on)

I'm going tomorrow to look at another frame.. If I get this Ill do a frame swap... replace all bushings, lines, etc etc... ill keep a more updated progress report on this project if anybody is interested.

It's a rough country 4" with pro comp mud terrains I love it. Unfortunately I'm most likely gettin rid of the stripe as well. But I'm glad there's at least one other like mine. Keep it up

ok I greatly apologize for the delay in updating this.. id get home from work.. want to update it.. then fall asleep... anyways update on the project..

I tore the top end of the the engine apart.. cleaned all the valves, the head, the lifters, push rods, rocker arms, springs...
replaced the valve seals put a new head gasket on..
no theres always one pain in the ***.. and here it is... so Im putting the valve cover on to the correct torque specs... and one of the bolts decides to shear off at 24lbs... wtf! haha I got easy outs... stripped one.. then went one side bigger and that snapped in the bolt... so I did the next best thing... drill the whole bolt out.. went to tap the hole and the tap broke in it... wtf!! ahaha soo thats my only dilemma right now.. just a small kink in the plan lmao

more pics on my ipod.. just havent uploaded them!

I washed the smoke soaked hardtop

bleach water was clear when I started..
nowwww ehh

washed the smoke filled roll bar pads OXI CLEAN!!

painted some parts... going for a unique color theme! itll will look amazing when its all together! (only a few done right now)

powdercoated these parts myself at my pops shop (there will be more)

was at my local car show (das awk fest/ wheels of time) and out of no where came across this frame coat vender... he is the owner.. was featured on a show on speed network with this product.. showed me the durability and **** i was convinced! he said 1 pint primer.. 1 pint coat.. will get two coats on an average frame. so I bought the two pints for $64

needed to weld two new rear shock mounts on... and a section of the frame were it thinned under the shock mount... and the skid plate where the trans mounts.. got this welder.. very recommended.. (had a buddy who welded for 15 yrs assist me)

welded the frame

got a canopy/ tent to cover the paint while it drys so it doesnt get wet.. (read instructions)

you know this stuff is good when it smells really bad/strong... and doesnt come off your skin for 3 weeks...

heres the primer

and the coating

now for the suspension lol just ordered a skyjacker 2.5 inch lift kit.. I didn't want to have to lower and add stuff.. but I think it will look great!
I also ordered a new skyjacker steering stabilizer... red master urethane bushing kit

I ordered all new brake hoses... stainless steel lines... all new e brake cables

ordered a full exhaust... (basically oem.. with a thrush muffler) I ordered a bunch of other stuff as well.. Ill try to post pics when everything comes in..

planning to swap axles.. paint them black with aluminum painted differential covers! with the red shock boots and the red urethane bushings the red calipers will look very good I think!

give me your opinions/comments!!!

looks really good. what axles are you looking to put in it? and also why did you weld the skid plate to the frame? yea i understand that the threads mights have been striped or the nut inserts roted out but, i dont think welding the plate to the frame was a great idea. just my 2 cents. i always like yj builds, partially because it gives me ideas for mine

you know I really didnt think about the whole welding the skid plate on until after... i wanted to do it because everything was stripped/ rotted out.. or rusted in.. and for strength... but your right in the sense that if I need to do tranny work... I have to pull the body off.. or cut the skid plate... Im putting the dana 30 and dana 35 that came with the jeep originally.. im just gonna clean everything up inside and put some new stuff in :P Since im a college student.. Its more of a budget build.. sooo Ill do what I can with the money I have!! its not going to be off road all the time.. just on occasions.. itll mostly be my summer winter **** around vehicle get me places my silverado Z71 wont :P and thanks! Im hoping by end of September Ill have everything on and it running.. the body might not be finished completely but its a jeep :P

ok so I think im gettin a little better at the updating this thread hahah recap of my week!

I ordered about $1400 of products from quadratec.. I pulled some strings and got it shipped free.. I ordered that Monday around 11:30 am... got it around the same time Tuesday! impressive to say the least.. granted I live an hour from there building... I also ordered around $400 from autozone... mechanical stuff.. new exhaust... etc etc..

Tuesday afternoon into the night I took all of my old suspension off.. stabilizer bar, steering stabilizer, track bars, tie rods, springs... I cleaned up all the parts and painted them with a engine enamel so the gas/oil doesn't harm them.

took my differential covers off.. and cleaned all the old **** out of there..

cleaned/painted the axles and the differential covers...

put a new gasket on the differentials.. and sealed them up! They look amazing! (I think)

put on my lift today and that just completes everything!

and here is what it currently looks like as of 5 minutes ago!!

tomorrow im planning on doing the entire braking system. finish putting all my suspension parts on with the new bushings

but question for anyone here.. I got a master urethane bushing kit.. it says T- Arm.. that's the track bar right? the one in the front that attaches to the axle and the one in the back vise versa... I got the bushings out.. but there seems to be a thin metal sleeve in there as well.. is that part of the track bar? or part of the old bushing? because my new bushings wont fit in unless thats out.. and its gonna be a little work to get them out haha
