I had an experienced welder TIG the bottom plate to the angle pieces on the sides. I welded the gussets in. It's just as thick, if not thicker, that the stock Explorer plates and it will keep my leaves from rotating around the center pin. When I took my old plates off I had to knock a couple leaves back straight with a hammer on both sides.

The clearance is great and I'll even venture to say that I get more with these than the Dynatrac kit. Reason being is because I used 1/4" plate on the bottom. The u-bolts on those kits are 9/16". They are still solid kits but I like the way these turned out. I'm thinking about doing some for the front.

Also, RockWoRM and maybe a few other guys are running similar ones that they bought.

Save your hands Lou --A 12-point socket will drive the reamer. put a 12-point socket on a long ratchet something that fits the square on the reamer. Since the 12 points of the socket will divide by 4 points on the reamer, and just use the ratchet to drive it. Push or pull the ratchet with one hand while the other hand applies downward pressure. Save your hands. I use this trick to drive large taps and threading dies.

Thanks Pete. I sat right next to my socket set while working and stared at the 12 point sockets. Dang I should have gave those a shot. I will tomorrow.

I had thought about this but I needed something to do this weekend. The drill presses I use are at work and we don't operate on the weekends. I will be taking the Teraflex knuckle to work and putting a 7/8" holes in it for the goferits.

OK, finished the knuckle. I took Pete's advice and used a 7/16" 12 point socket. Worked like a champ in terms of saving my hands but still took some effort.

I also replaced my tail lights with the ones my buddy donated to me. Here's what my drivers side looked like after I took the screws out.

Mine is completely rusted out. I need a new one.

Thanks. That bumper is a Smittybilt I modified. There's a long story about how it came to be but I'll do the short one. I got the swing away tailgate part separate from the bumper. When I put the two together it didn't latch so I modified it with a Destaco latch from Amazon along with some 2" x 2" angle.

Actually I got the idea from RockWoRM who posted his JKS plates in a u-bolt flip kit thread and he mentioned they could probably be made from someone who can do light fabrication work. I think they turned out pretty good and beefy. That thread above is what my buddy sent me after we talked about making them. He's already made him a set too.

I like the look of it / ability to actually stand on it. I was gonna do the standard square stock, cut at angle and put plates at the end and weld it. But that's like 2" or so of stepping room. Although you never really step on the rear bumper... I'm just so unsure.

How do you like it?

Coming from a guy who didn't run a bumper for 10 years, I like having it a lot. I always hated not having a hitch and a recovery point out back.
