Here is a pic of the tailgate with grade 8 hardware that we were talking about.

Looks good. I also really like your tail lights and backup lights.

Thanks. Tail lights are a 4 inch led turn/stop light and the backup lights are from advance auto parts.

Got the hinges and tailgate painted. I also had a guy come look at my hardtop to buy it but he passed. I even took a good bit off the price. Oh well. Looks like the softopper will have to wait.

Thanks. My iPhone does not do it justice. I didn't paint the back side of the tailgate so it's still red. I want to get a quart can of Herculiner and cover it up.

I also need to take the lock cylinder out of my old tailgate and put it in the new one.

Done for tonight. I had to use the old hinges because the newer ones did t work. I was going to drill the tub out and use them but I have no access to an electrical outlet for my drill. Not yet at least.

Alright. I went to a meeting with a potential club in Atlanta. We met at a place downtown and I had a good time. The people were nice, the beer was cold, and the food was good. I look forward to riding with them this month.

On the way up to Atlanta I notice my rear right wheel was hopping a bit. I really felt it around 70-75 mph. I also thought it was weird that I didn't feel it for the first 30 minutes of driving. I was going fast on the interstate and my wheels have dents in them and my tires haven't been balanced since I bought them 2 years ago. So on the way back home I took the long way and stopped in at the Discount Tires I bought my KM2's from and had them balanced since I have lifetime balance and repair. They made sure to tell me they did the best they could with the dented wheel. I said it was fine and thanked them for their service. It rode a lot smoother when I got back on the road. I wish I would have gotten my tires balanced a year ago.

Next this evening I finished the tailgate the proper way. I went to Lowe's and bought a 50' drop cord to come down from my 3rd floor deck of my apartment to my jeep in the parking lot. I redrilled some holes and did some grinding. I got the TJ tailgate hinges bolted up and it turned out pretty good. I now remember why I hate using stainless steel hardware though, the tendency to gall is high and I had it happened on 3 of the 6 bolts I bought. I probably won't get SS again.

Here's some pics of my workspace, some clearance issues, and the finished product.

Surprisingly they kind of do. Maybe not as much when I got the 4" angle grinder out but I don't use it in the parking lot often. I actually meet a lot of my neighbors because I'm working on my jeep. I even had a guy in the other building, who I've never met, asked me if I was rebuilding it. I said no I'm just fixing the broken stuff so I can break it again. He said he's been watching me work on it for a while now. A lot of them say they always wanted one and I say they should go for it.

Here's some of the major stuff I've done in the parking lot at my apartment:

Herculiner
Tailgate
Timing chain
Oil pump
Axle shaft u-joints
Brake lines
U-bolts
Front and rear bumper
Warn winch (rebuilt on my apartment deck, see sig)
Ford Taurus E-fan
Transmission mount & stabilizer bushings
Replaced crossmember
Exhaust manifold

I didn't do my 8.8 install at my apartment parking lot but I did do it at my workplace parking lot.

Such a nice day today. I cleaned up the rusty parts from damage from rocks and trees on various wheeling trips. It didn't turn out too bad.

It was about 80 degrees today in Georgia. With that kind weather I can't just stay inside so I went to examine the jeep. I knew the pinion seal was leaking so I looked at it again and it looked considerably oily. Anyway I remember I had an extra pinion seal from my master install kits when I did the re-gear 3 years ago. I replaced the seal but I didn't want to put the yoke back in just yet because it looked worn and it had the tiny rough spots. It may help to sand it down but I don't know if I want to do that to a machined surface. I know I should replace it. What do y'all think about it?

I also bought some new hardware for the high-lift mounts. The old bolts were rusty and raggedy looking. I need to have the high-lift sand blasted and then paint it. It's looking raggedy too.

I wanted to get a few more things done to the jeep while the weather was good plus I was bored. So I decided to take my front diff guard off that I won in a raffle and my previous club because it had a slight leak and it blocked the fill plug which I didn't like...so I cut it off.

Here's some pics of how it was and how I cut it. I just need to slap some paint on it now. It should bash rocks just as well.
