I've always used rubber bushings to promote better flex but have had issues lately with premature wearout after heavy flex. I may replace this winter with poly although I hate the squeaking that comes with them!

And onto more progress pics...

Painted up the bulkhead, finished the tubes. The highlines made the battery mounting a little tricky, but nothing a little hack-and-tack couldn't take care of. Battery will be mounted at a 30deg rake, but is ok with the Optima yellow top I run.

Hammered black on everything:

A nice little package picked up in North Carolina - gotta love ebay

Two Cummins B3.3L turbodiesels from a equipment scrap yard

In between primer and waiting on more parts to come in, I kept working on the chassis, albeit slowly. We ran all new brakelines and went ahead and did the long arms. They're RE radius style mounted to Poly Performance Hi-clearance mounts.

And last but not least, the final engine ready to drop in. Had the injectors freshened up and installed and a new turbo. While I was originally just going to do the standard 3.3 black, I figured I might as well add a little bling - Cummins Apex Red.

Rusty midwest jeeps... holes everywhere (also had to remind myself that rear axle clearance wouldn't be an issue with stock TJ). I decided to french the RCI 2161A tank down to the bottom plane of the frame. In hindsight, the gaping hole in the body weakens the tub much more than it's worth. I suggest just leaving it tub mounted for future DIY guys.

Most of you that have been around me know about my trucker mud flap fetish :fu:

A little extra protection

This piece of rubber weather strip was a real pita but necessary to keep the tank isolated

And new fuel lines

Notice the auxiliary fuel pump - not necessary with this engine (it pulls from the tank up to 4' of head) but should supply enough fuel for extreme angles

And one last pic - guess what's next

And as already mentioned, word to wise - if you're thinking about frenching a fuel cell don't do it. Not worth the 8 hours it took to do. The most you can drop is 7" if you stay flush with rear frame rail.

Finally got the laser cut/CNC bent versions of my mock-up mounts:

Turn up the heat and burn it in:

Notice the mounts are offset since stock TJ engines are offset 1" CL to the passenger side:

Diesels are touchy with filtration, so this monster filter meant for a 11.0L engine should suffice:

Here's the key to the flat mount style - $$$ hydraulic units originally used on Ford 300ci I-6 applications:

And the Poison Spyder comp series cage:

I had it blasted and powercoated silver at a local shop after having the POR-15 peel off in strips. I'm sure surface prep was a problem as POR-15 wants a rough surface and most of the stuff I painted was raw steel but I still wasn't impressed.

2 hours later (or 2 minutes in internet time):

And body parts start going on, for the 13th time to to finalize the intercooler/radiator/fan setup:

Lower radiator rest. Yes, I put the driver's side mount in a big press to estimate compression and destroyed the mount, so the engine is sitting 1/4" low on the driver's side

Good clean installation:

Fan clearance...no problemo. This is the ever-common Ford Taurus radiator fan using a Delta Controls fan controller. I had tried a Permacool controller first but it lasted all of 2 hours with the current the Taurus fans pull.

Drum roll please...

Jumped back to the roll cage and modified it all to accept stock TJ soft top. The overall stance is taking shape now with the engine finally in place. Will try to get some shots of the trans mounting and then on to the skidplate:
