yeah man, you're supposed to use a gasket backing, tuff stuff makes one. I'm sure you know this already though.

The rust was just tiny little specs, most of which was stained from where the back of the rockers rusted, and not on the body itself.

We all thought RTV would be just fine instead of a gasket. It didn't work THAT well. When I put them back on, I'm not going to use a gasket.

There mostly used to protect the paint under the sliders, but seeing as mine is already uglied up from the RTV, there is no point...Also, I've read from a few respectable fellas, that the gasket will also trap contaminants (sp?) under the guard (being that the seal isn't PERFECT, which it's most likely not going to be) , and not having one will let the contaminants clean out easier.

This time i'm also going to use some griptape on the steps to help make the paint last longer where my feet use the step.

You can try Por15ing it back there, that way it is protected from more rust.

Sucks about the rust though, damn rust belt.

1997 TJ with some stuff done to it.

I put them back on just now, and used some white silicone caulking along the top edge to atleast seal it slightly. Also water would sit right on the top edge causing the paint to bubble badly and rust so the silicone should help that too.

Put some griptape right where I use it to step on each side, and that should help the paint there last longer. Once again looking nice...

What are you talking about? They look fine Nate. They are covered in dust/old salt from the winter.

with those soft doors on, it really reminds me of an old scrambler.

Come to think of it, it is scrambler-like; and I like that. The Unlimiteds will be the Scrambler of this generation.

And the soft 8's DO look terrible. The powdercoat/finish was destroyed in mud while trying to pull a stupid friend out.

Oh and the silicone didn't have enough time to dry and it rained today and is going to rain all day tomorrow. Looks like i'll be re-doing that...

yea id try to ditch those for some oem wheels, i personally think it would look a lot better with canyons in good shape or a set of ravines mounted on those mtzs. Steelies never seem to hold up well.
