I know, I know. I love my LJ.
AND I just ordered a Tom Woods rear CV shaft with their "Super Duty Tail Shaft Conversion Kit". Should have it in two weeks or so. Once I get the funds back I'll be ordering a set of either Rokmen or Currie double JJ rear adj. upper arms and getting rid of those darn Rubicon Express ones. Tail shaft kit: Tom Wood's Custom Drive Shafts - Tom Woods Custom Drive Shafts Custom Driveshafts Specialist They were out of the Advanced Adap. SYE, and also running a special on this one (^) so I went with that. It's basically the same thing, it just has a flat flange and bolts up differently and comes with a warranty.

I'm also looking at going with tom woods and an advance adapters sye, did you have to call them for your order so you get the correct length drive shaft? and does it cost more (if so how much) since it longer than the TJ? It will be a while for me because i'm still need to save up for adj UCAs. Just doin some research.

Yeah I called. You have to measure from where the shaft meets the output on the transfer case to the center of the cap on the axle side u-joint. Mine was 28.5". Didn't cost any more than a TJ shaft. $300 for the shaft, $200 for the SYE ($225 for AA), $5 for new straps and bolts, and $5 for shipping. $510 all together which isn't too bad. Rear uppers will be around $250 for a decent set.

Great build so far!I also have the OME HD 2.5 and a body lift and lower fixed RE ca and i bought a JKS rear upper adjustable ones so i can fine tune my pinion angle. Can you tell me how much longer or shorter should i adjust my new arms so the angle should be perfect?
PS:I know you have an LJ and i have a TJ so you,as LJ,have the longest possible rear driveshaft and i,as a TJ,AND auto (the auto's have a longer transmission so they push the transfer further back an make the driveshaft shorter) have the shortest of them all,but maybe your case will help me some how.Cheers!! |

If you have a CV shaft check this out here:
http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f9/what-cv-shaft-why-do-i-want-one-854790/ If you don't than the pinion should be set at the same angle as the angle where the shaft comes out of the t-case. |

Made a pit stop at NAPA on my way home from school sick and got some nice ring clip pliers and transmission fluid. Than this came in:
![]() ![]() I hope to start (and hopefully finish) the install tomorrow. At the very least I'd like to get the t-case out and SYE installed. |

Why do you put a sye-cv?I thought that with the mml-bl and upper rear ca's you would have been covered vibe-wise!

I needed an SYE and CV because between the 2.5" susp. lift and than another 2" or so of t-case lift from the belly up, the driveline angles are getting pretty steep. Even with the MML. The upper arms aren't needed badly until you have a CV shaft really. I'm not 100% sure that I need it, but I have some vibes I'm hoping it will get rid of, and it will be much stronger than the stocker.

Yeah, at the t-case. Probably closer to around 4" though. I'd like to get some stock LJ measurements to really see how much lift I have. Front bumper height, rear, belly skid, etc... If anyone with a stock LJ wouldn't mind taking some measurements, it would be appreciated.

No pictures from the install but I owe it all to this write up:
Advance Adapters Slip Yoke Eliminator AA SYE Jeep TJ Installation which has plenty of pictures. I decided to leave the t-case in for less work but I've been super uncomfortable all day and am now super sore from being crammed under the jeep the whole time. It wasn't hard but it wasn't easy. Now that I know what I'm doing, have all the tools, and know the steps; I could do it no problem pretty quickly. All I have to do is get that one upper that's rusted adjusting again, and set my pinion angle which I'll hopefully do tomorrow. With a quick test drive, 4wd works fine although I think I need to adjust my linkage as 4lo is tough to get into, and it's much smoother even with the pinion angle off. Time to wash up, lay down, and eat. ![]() |
