Over the past weekend I threw together the cart and got everything ready to finish the job:

Cleaned up the "rust":

Monday brings the turd man with this in his hands:

Very impressed with the quality of everything so far:

I am up to date with the build thread and should have some updates this weekend.

Currently in process as of 05.15.13:
- tube fenders (front, rear)
- bed liner the tub
- 3.5" lift (shipping any day now)

Some more progress this weekend:

We unpacked and set up the welder. My buddy runs a machine shop was very impressed with the Hobart 140. He played around with settings and 5 min later got the mounting brackets welded in the right spot:

He used the supplied flux core wire, gotta get gas soon:

For now we shot it with primer to get the jeep on the road. Next weekend we'll be doing the other side and shooting it with proper spray:

I'm spraying the hood hooks:

Installed:

My first quick attempt at welding:

I know I need a real table and a better helmet along with some scrap metal to do this right, but I worked with what I got for now:

How it looks till next weekend, need to trim rock guards and install those back on. Looks silly without:

Apparently PO didn't bother putting any grease in the driveshaft u-joints causing them to rust throughout and fail. I removed the old one:

Tried to slide them out, yea right, not a chance:

Friend with machine shop pulled the old ones:

New set:

What happens when you don't lube your rods:

All done:

Just got off the phone with a yard, have an 8.8 waiting for me to pick up from 97 exploder with disk brakes and 4.10s!

Nice to have a 3 day weekend coming up, hoping to get fender/rock guards and rear tube fenders done.

Good to know! I was debating for a while if I should bother doing the swap or wait till D35 packs it up, leaving my self no choice at that point.

I'm looking at pics now... Not sure how I feel about the look. It's functional for sure.

Today I had a few hrs to tinker with rear fenders. I took off the stock plastic ones and installed the Smittybilt rear tubes:

Cleaned up the tub underneath:

Drilled out the holes slightly larger for the hardware to fit:

Hit em with Rust-Oleum primer:

Had to use something to keep things lined up:

Installed:

Still need to get the rock guards back on and finish the front fenders.

Picked up this 1000w work light at on sale at HD. Pretty decent light, so far works great. This will ensure I get everything done over the weekend:

I've seen some YJs around here that you wouldn't even notice it was done until the owners pointed it out.

I too have enjoyed your build. The only thing better than a well written build thread(there is one in the TJ section that is hilarious) is one with a ton of pictures.

Thanks buddy, I've been certainly inspired by your build and learned quite a bit from reading through.

I felt like a kid at a candy store picking up the 8.8 rear end today. My buddy showed up sometime in the AM and we hit the road. They had it ready on a forklift and dropped right into the bed of his Dodge:

4.10 gears from 97 explorer with disk brakes:

At his place before pressure wash:

Pressure washing surface rust and slight oil spill from another diff leaking onto it:

Nice and clean:

Took the cover off. Very clean oil and no metal flakes, gears looks clean as well!:

Unloading at my place:

It's finally home, stay tuned for restoration and installation!:

We also installed the passenger side rear tube and called it a day:
