I have done a couple where I gust cut the wires then extend them with soldiered connections then if the tank comes down again you have 0 issues next time,
hopefully it doesn't come down again though (knock on wood)

The more I think about it - the more it looks like a non OE clip. Perhaps the shop that fudged it up the first time broke the connection and replaced it? I have no idea - but mine is white and a different shape than the other ones I have seen about the 'net.

Take 2 at lunch today! Hopefully the part will be there by this evening and I can get the tank back up and get poor Alice running again!

Chicks are allowed build threads here, right?

Muahahah! Tank is out. Turns out that there was no safety clip. I have a feeling the shop broke it and never replaced it. How imperative is it?

Also - tank cleaning. I should probably do this. Have to figure out how to siphon the half tank of gas out. I'm leery of taking the gas out, cleaning the tank and putting the same gas back in.

Its pulled and ready to ship to Sundowner for science. But there is a half tank in there - despite my gauge reading a 1/4 tank max. What am I looksieing for?

Rust, any type of debris..... I doubt there is any. Just leave the gas, and install your new pump. Only reason I would dump it would be so it's easier to handle the tank during re-install.

My only worries on the re-install is the filler nozzle. It got so stuck coming down ... I have no idea how it will re-allign itself. At that angle I have no idea how I can even help it do so.

Just lift the tank alittle at a time and make sure the filler neck and fuel/vent lines are clear or not caught on anything between lifts. That's what I did.

When you pulled the pump out, if the sock was clean then I wouldn't worry about crap in the tank.
