Jeep looks good man... I am kinda biased to a white YJ though.

I got a buddy wheeling down at URE Memorial day weekend... I am going to plan a camping trip down there sometime this summer too. I'll hit ya up... you can show me the ropes.

got a little bit done since the last time i updated this.

while i was out in Uwharrie i broke my traction bar mount where i mounted to the stock skid. i knew it would break eventually. i decided i would just build a new skid out of 1/4" and get it remounted on the new skid.

BUT...... before i do that i decided that i wanted to make a crossmember for my trans so my skid can be removed without touching my trans mount.

here is what i ended up with. i do not run a BL so i obviously cant go flat. i dont want a BL at this time either. i think my rig is already too high and i BARELY fit in my garage as is.

basic shape of the crossmember

installed

you cant tell in the pic above that i had to notch the crossmember for my Cat. Converter.

heres the notch i did

i made this crossmemeber out of things i had in my garage for free. i used some 1.75x.120 DOM as well as some 1/4" plate for the mount. for the frame mounts i used some leaf spring bushings i had in my garage and cut up some old Con-fer shackles.

heres the frame mount

and a teaser of the 1/4" plate that im going to making my skid out of

today i went out into the garage and replaced my steering column bearing.

my old bearing and hardware was shot. you could move my whole steering shaft side/side and up/down.

first thing i did was unbolt my steering box.

remove these bolts

And these

then i had to unbolt my home made steering box brace

next i removed the bolt holding the lower shaft shaft onto the upper. after that i wiggled my box down a little bit to seperate the shafts.

then i removed all of the old harware. they sure have seen better days

and the new

here the part number for anyone thats interested in doing this

installed the new bearing and hardware

and thats it. got it all bolted back up after that.

i took it on a test drive and got some SERIOUS death wobble though. i havent had death wobble at all since i did my SOA so this was a surprise. i think my steering is just bound up a bit or something. i have to look into that. i have brand new balljoints installed and my heims are still in good condition. i just recently did and alignment and my tires are recently mounted and balanced. hmmmm

well i think i got my DW figured out. i re-aligned it and i re-torqued everything up front. my spring plate ubolts were pretty loose so im thinking thats maybe what it was. i took it on a long drive and didnt get any death wobble at all. im going to drive it to work tomorrow and see if anything happens.

in other news... this weekend i plan on putting some more work into my skid plate im building. hopefully i cant get that mostly done as well as build a new traction bar mount off of it.

finshed up my skid today. it sits a little lower than i would like, but again thats because i dont want to run a BL. even with it sitting a little low and not being flat with the frame im sitting at 20.25" at the belly. not too bad i dont think.

the whole skid is made out of 1/4" with all the reinforcements being 3/16" angle. i also re-used to engine skid i built.

on to the pics

a little mock and tacking

3/16" bracing

painted and installed

been doing a little work on the Heep lately.

about a week ago i ordered a teraflex rear shock bar as it was on sale for $25. i figured not a bad deal. it definitely was not just a regular bolt in install for me. both my rear upper shock mounts were mangled. i had to cut them and re-weld them just in order to get the bar to somewhat fit. once i got it fit i realized my exhaust was in the way. so i had to cut that out. i got the shocks mounted finally and stopped there. ill figure out the rest of my exhaust later and figure out where i need my traction bar once i build a new one.

on a side note i scored a SWEET deal on craigslist today.

i picked up a Lincoln AC-225 Arc welder for $50. i tested it to make sure it worked and then the deal was made.

I can't believe I haven't posted in your thread Chris.

If you're ever wheeling at Windrock let me know. I will be a resident of TN pretty soon.

I'll be ready. Well I hope so at least. I've never wheeled Windrock but I will be in August. The only wheeling I've done in TN was at Tellico years ago. But Windrock has been my goal after riding in AL, SC, and GA parks. I'm looking at Uwharrie next. I'll let you know when I plan on going.

where are you going to be living in TN?

Uwharrie is ok. its pretty moderate. at least compared to what im used to on the West coast.

i figure its a decent middle ground for us distance wise depending on where youre coming from
