recently I saw a thread on JF where i guy made a cooler mount off of his tire carrier. It was actually a good design and not 10' in the air like most. So with that being said i stole his idea and made one myself today. The design is a little different but in the end it accomplishes the same job. A good cooler mount is something that I've been needing for a while. Usually i set a cooler on top of my tool box and ratchet strap it against my Hi-lift. I got tired of throwing water and soda cans all over the place everytime my lid decides to open while im climbing an obstacle. I also had to remove the cooler everytime I needed to get into my tool box. I think this new mount will serve its purpose quite well.

To start out i took measurements of my cooler and built a little frame out of some 1"x1" angle iron i had lying around the garage.

Then I took some 3"x3" angle and cut them into 4 little pieces. I welded one on each side just to help keep the cooler centered if it starts bouncing for some reason.

I picked up a HF receiver tube today so the mount can bee removable

I then cut down the receiver tube and welded it to my tire carrier. After that i took some square tubing i had and welded it to my frame I made. Then I welded some 2"x3" box tube in across the center of the frame to made it stiff and not allow any flex.

Heres a picture of all that stuff I just mentioned.

The final thing to do was weld in some hoops so i can strap it down. I picked up some small Ubolts from Lowe's to use

Heres some pictures of it all painted up and the cooler mounted. I have a ratchet strap holding the cooler to the mount and a bungee cord keeping the lid closed for those wild times on the trail.

And thats it for now. 4 more days til Uwharrie.

Yes I did. My short side shaft is stowed in my trunk area and my long side shaft is ratchet strapped and bungy corded to my Hi-lift.

I have just started following your thread and love your rig. I am 16 and started off much like you did but I have a black 1988 yj 6cyl automatic. I have poison Spyder all around including front bumper, fenders front and rear, rock sliders and a steering box skid. My next move I was planning on doing Deaver progressive leaf springs all the way around along with bolstering shocks. I want your opinion on which way I should go with my build. I already have a Lincoln 220 migwelder
, plasma cutter, almost every saw you can think of. We own a bridgeport mill and a complete craftsman tool chest along with many specialty tools
