decided to get a new steering wheel today. its been on my list of things to get for yrs, just at the very bottom

i bought a GT grant from o'riley auto parts. not sure what model. its on the box in the garage. i just picked the one i liked best.

heres my old wheel. its a LECARRA that has seen better days

new one still in the box(well after i ripped it apart )

new VS. old

instead of spending $10 on a steering wheel puller i just made one myself. i took some 1/8" steel, drilled some holes for the steering wheel mounting holes, then i drilled a hole in the center and welded a bolt to the back side. after that i just screwed my center bilt down til the old mounting hardware popped right off.

my ghetto wheel puller

heres the start of the Grant hardware being mounted

and finished mounting. looks a lot better

Gotta say Love your Jeep I have to Commment on your new steering wheel. I have the same one got it on my Fifteenth birthday and its been on every vehicle Ive owned ( six total). Im now thirty and it still looks the same as the day I got it. You can kinda see it in this pic.

Thanks Taylor. I haven't been out wheeling yet with the stretch but I'm curious to see what it does.

I can't wait to get back to SD to hit up the trails.

have you thought about adding some triangulation to the cage between the A and B pillars?

I've though about it but without bending some tube to keep from smacking my noggin I'm stuck here. I have some gussets that I need to weld in sometime

UPDATE:

came home from work today to find some more packages were delived.

one was my driveshaft that ive been waiting on for 2 weeks, and the other were the LED lights that my friend sent me that im going to rig up as rock lights

the packages inside the door waiting for me

and then i opened the new shaft i ordered because my stock wouldnt reach anymore after my stretch. Curtis tatton hooked it up on this shaft. i called him and was able to get this at a custom lenght for $140 TO MY DOOR

its pretty damn BEEF as well.

and heres a picture of the stock shaft VS. the new shaft. both are completely compressed in this pic.

and here is the stock shaft FULLY extended vs the new shaft FULLY COLLAPSED

fully extended vs. fully extended

approx amount of slip

and fully installed

crappy pic that doesnt really show much except for how beefy it is

took it for a test drive and its perfect. i have a lunchbox locker so my front shaft always spins. i wanted to make sure i get no vibes. i only took it down the street cause its getting late and i have to work early. i got it up to around 40MPH though with no vibes.

i did have time however to be a gay mallcrawler and take some flex pics down the road. i REALLY need to get this thing on the trail. kinda hard though when the nearest trail is 4 hrs away

i need to get some hoops up front and some longer shocks. in this pic my driver shock is at full bump with my 10" shocks and i still have PLENTY of room left in my suspension.

ANOTHER UPDATE:

found a set of 35" GY MTR's(old style, the best style) in the classifieds on here. only 1200 miles on the tires so i snagged them up. i measured 20/32"(5/8") tread, then i hopped online to see what they are brand new. 20/32"

i think i got a real good deal at only $700.

just picked them up

i think you could say my old tires have had it. i cant complain though. i got them from free from a friend on here and ran them for almost a year.

heres one of the best tires

and the worst

and a comparison. unmounted 35x12.50r15 next to a mounted 35x12.50r15 summit mud dawg

then i ran into a problem. when i pulled my old tires to take them to the shop and get them switched over i realized my balljoints are bad. like undrivable bad. when i jacked up the front end you could actually see the upper driver balljoint pop out of the knuckle and only stop when it hits the castle nut.

you can also tell when it is flat on the ground because the driver tire is cambered in.

here is the degree the tire is at on flat ground

and as soon as you jack it up the tire levels itself out

soooooo i need to get some new balljoints in before i mount up my new tires and try to run them

new tires look good.

get the synergy JK balljoints from Polyperformance... fits in a D30, and are supposed to be the best thing out there.

WOW. i just looked at the synergy ball joints......$250. thats ridiculous. i am a firm believer in not throwing any more money into a dana 30 than i have to.

ill probably just get some OEM balljoints. these ones have lasted 20 yrs(i imagine still OEM). i just need the new balljoints to last until i get a D60. whenever that is

thanks for the TIP though Taylor

that is very true. i just dont see the point in spending that much if i KNOW im gonna upgrade eventually.

if you plan to stay at 35s for a long time then an upgraded D30 is perfect
