It re-uses the rear half of the case as well as most of the internals. I.E. mode fork, range fork, chain, output shafts etc.

What it replaces is just the front half of the case with the reduction gears already installed.

Nice! When do you plan on doing the actul swapping over? If I am around, I'd like to swing by and help. I'll bring the beers!

91 YJ, 350/700R4/231, 8.8/HPD30 with 3.73s, 6" SOA with 38" TSLs. If I ever see the previous owner again, I am going to curb stomp that meth-head brain dead crackpot.

I'm working nights all week, so I actually swapped everything over today. Permatex is drying now. Only thing left to do is bolt it back up in the jeep, fill it with fluid and re-install driveshafts, skids etc.

I appreciate the offer though

Looking forward to some pictures and how it drives. What is the weight of the thing? I figured it would be half of what an atlas would be. If it doesn't weigh much more than the standard front half of a 231, then support on the rear wouldn't be an issue like it is with an atlas. Does it retain the stock chain?

Spent some time the last couple days before work on the Teralow.

First thing I did was start tearing down the old case.

stock case opened up

All the guts sitting on my mess of a bench

stock front half next to the new Teralow front half

Stock planetary gears

Teralow planetary gears

Then I threw the Teralow case on the bench and starting assembling it.

Threading the new studs on

All the guts in the new case

then i buttoned it all back up

And threw it back under the hoopty.

I then reconnected the driveshafts, bolted up the crossmember and filled the case with some ATF+4 fluid.

Tomorrow after work I will back the jeep out of the garage, clean up my horrible mess I made and then test out the case and start my break-in process.

The weight seems to be about the same as a stock 231. Maybe a few pounds heavier. It retains everything stock except for the planetary gears, input seal and input bearing.

No I didn't get the 2LOW option right now. I researched it quite a bit and it seems that most people that installed it say they never use it and it was a waste of money. If I decide later on that I really want one I'll order it up and throw it in.

The case ran $950 to my door. I tried to find a 241OR for a little while and couldnt find anything for a good price and within a reasonable distance.

That looks awesome. I'd consider the Tera kit once my jeep grows up.

Just took the Jeep on a test drive/break in. Let me say first that 4:1 tcase gearing is LOW. I can let off the clutch in 1st gear with no gas and walk next to the jeep (i said i could, not i did). It will just crawl right next to me.

Have a wheeling trip in April. I cant wait to get it out on the trail

Lou what are you doing the 1st weekend of May? Some friends want to head out to Windrock. If i can find someone to cover me at work on Sunday I think I'm gonna try to make the trip.

A friend of mine ran over his own leg doing that. Hilarious. His jeep used his leg as a stack to get up a rock.

No permanent injuries, but now we can make fun of him for running himself over.

I may have done that when I put my atlas in. Your going to absolutely love having the lower gears. In 1st low does it drive through the brakes?

Chris I may be able to make it for a day ride. Finals are during that time but the one I have is on the 3rd so it's looking good.

I'm going to check with the wifey and also make sure my other two classes don't have any finals. I don't believe they do.

The jeep should be ready.

I havent noticed any driving throught the brakes yet. I read about that and it seemed to be more with the automatics... If I do have a problem with it though I'll upgrade my brakes. Do you have that problem with the Atlas?

Just let me know. I should know sometime in April whether I'll be going or not. I watched some videos and looked at a bunch of pics from Windrock. It seems like a pretty cool place.
