I've never seen an upclose comparison between a D44 and 8.8 but the 8.8 is pretty big and beefy. With the stretch my diff was under the gas tank about the depth of my SOLID diff cover.

Vegas a couple minutes after I read your thread (yesterday) a dude in my jeep club posted that he has one he is selling for $25:

He also said he has an extra plastic tank he'll send with it.

You have piqued my interest. Look for this mod in my build thread soon. I'll be doing it with the Kilby 3/16" skid + 8.8 ford + wagoneer springs.

Thanks for the motivation.

Lucky. I was trying to find a cheap aftermarked skid for a little bit but wasnt able to find anything, so i decided to use my stock skid.

couple pictures from todays work. Had some friends come over today and help me heat up the tank and get it into the skid. I got it bolted into the skid and filled it with water, ill let it sit over night to see if it leaks. If all is good whenever I get time I will try to get it bolted up. hopefully everything clears and the tank is sitting far enough down in the skid.

It SUCKS by yourself

It was a lot easier once I had some help. I used a HF heat gun and a small propane torch for the heating.

Looks good man! Top notch upgrades as always!

My jeep is DONE!! Wired up and running! Gonna pick it up tomorrow or Monday. The Jubaru is in the garage in pieces, clutch is kickin my a$$. The clutch was easy, but the broken exhaust manifold studs, trans mount bolts are really killin me.

Can't wait to get some trail time this summer

I think I'll be buying a cheap propane camping stove. This way I can "cook" the tank with it sitting on Jack stands above.

After yesterday does this sound good?

Its about time the jeep is done. Sucks about the Jubaru. I already have the Hobart loaded in the truck for you to borrow.

I sure can't wait. I need to still do a couple more things before i go wheeling and this is the major one. It'll be nice when i can knock it off the checklist.

A bunch of us are hitting up Uwharrie Apr 12-14. Would be awesome if you could make it out

not sure if the camping stove would work. The propane torch i used heats it up real quick. Not sure if the stove would be overkill and melt it too fast.

You can try it and if it works then it'll probably make this mod a lot easier for a bunch of people.
