Regearing is going down New Years week ...

5.13s are the most likely choice , and after talking to the gear guy I think I will put the Jana kits in each axle . Yes the rear 44 is staying at least for a while . Still havent decided on the rear locker , guess I better make up my mind in the next three weeks .

Hmm so you don't think you'll switch now before spending the money? I think you'll be fine on the 44. You're on 35s still right? Good luck with the locker choice haha

Yes I am on 35s and doubt that I will go bigger anytime soon .

Heres where I stand . I still want the 60 in the rear and I hate to put money in the 44 .But I have run up on a fair deal to re gear my 44s and its what I can afford right now . With our health insurance premium tripling , I dont have the same amount of disposable income as I did . So for now the 44 gets gears so that the 35s will spin a little easier .

With the Jana44 Kits…don't you need two lockers? You mentioned a rear locker but not a front. Just curious.

I'm in the same boat as you are. I don't think I can spend money on the Dana 44's knowing that 1 tons are in the future.

Understood. I contemplated the same with my jk doing junk yard 60s front and rear. So far I'm happy with the stock 4.10s so axle swap and re gear have gone on the back burner. Have you thought about maybe an 8.8? No idea which would be cheaper to build. I know know a 60 with 4.10s is easy to find. But anything higher and your just in the same cost to re gear as you are now. We'll anyways I'll stop babbling good luck with your desicion. Are you thinking about a selectable locker? Or something like a truetrac?

I am going to keep the front factory air locker , and it will accept a JK 44 gearset with the Jantz kit . I think I will regret not going to JK gears if I dont do it and I hate doing stuff twice . I dont forsee running a front 60 , but at some point I will have a rear one . When that time comes I should be able to get decent money for my rear 44 . Its a fine line to avoid spending too much if you think you want to go to tons like you want to .

No 8.8 for me as I already have the 44 rear . As to the locker it will either be a front Rubi to get rid of the limited slip option in the rear Rubi locker or a Detroit . With the trailer behind me loaded and the family in the LJ I need some gearing sooner than later .

I'd throw a detroit in the rear and forget about it. I still think the Jana kits are a waste though. If you don't believe me go ask Blaine.

A JK gear set will bolt up to a TJ/LJ Dana 44 Rubicon Locker? I didn't know that. That's something to look into.

Gonna be sweet with the 5.13's buddy. Sounds like a solid plan.

I can see a rear 60. Both just seems overkill unless you get into some serious wheeling. I though 8.8 shafts were thicker than 60? Or did I read wrong? I'd it was forever ago. The jk gears are are different design correct? Didn't know they were a direct bolt in

Its a huge strength gain for $150 per axle more , it seems to make sense to me . I am waiting on some info to come in before I order the kits , but I want to believe what I have read .

As to the rear the $300 detroit on NC 4x4 is tempting

Sort of bolt in with the kit from Jantz engineering . It does require some grinding to clear the ring gear , but otherwise its supposed to be a normal install .

I hope so , its a little sluggish with the 35s .

Not sure if about the axle shafts of the 8.8 vs the 60 . I do know that the ring and pionin is larger on the 60 . The JK gears bolt in with the use of the Jantz engineering kit . It allows you to run the JK gears by grinding a small amount out of your housing to clear the larger ring gear . It is supposed to be minimal grinding .
