JT's TJ

Last year in the month of April i had my 2003 Ford Ranger Edge 4x4 burn to the ground due to a bad cruise control unit that caught fire. Be aware, (they had a recall on 2001 to 2003 Rangers about 4 months ago on this part). I had recently put a new Duralast Toolbox in it (we grabbed it and set it away from the truck before it got to a blaze...,New offroad tires, Procomp Soft 8s(brand new), Pioneer speakers and headunit, and drop in bedliner. My insurance paid for everything except my personals inside which was iPod classic, very expensive Fuji Digital Camera, clothes, nice ax, a few knives and lots of other stuff. About a 2 weeks later after looking really hard for a nice TJ i found my 1999 Sport in Parkersburg, WV for $8500 with 74kmiles. Heres some RIP picts of my truck as it was burning. Yep i cried a little...But now i am extremely happy to have the vehicle i have always wanted and i enjoy the heck out of my TJ!!! Thanks for reading and now on with the build.

And here is the first week i had my TJ. I added a Fox sticker haha.

After about 2 months of owning it i had taken the brush guard off, added some Westin Driving Lights, clear corners, billet aluminum headlight/tailight/turn signal covers, Added my windshield decal that i made with moms machine, took the bumper ends off, and new mud terrains.

Then about a month later i had traded one of my friend who had an XJ at the time for his 100watt KC Daylighters because they wouldnt fit on his custom bumper but my Westins would haha! I also added some tow hooks and sprayed them red and put a Wrangler decal on the hood.

Then a few weeks later i decided the fenders were just a little faded and bought some Krylon Plastic paint and sprayed them, heres a pic with the flares off while they were being painted. Next time i will just leave them and tape it all off. Taking your flares of is a PITA!!!

That same week i finally decided to make my wheels black. Sanded from rough to fine in every little nood and crany, primer, gloss black, and then clear gloss. Only have one small chip after months of bad weather and trails...Not to bad for 25 bucks in supplies.

A few weeks ago i found a cheap soft top about 3 hours away and now i can go topless whenever i want. Tan wasnt my favorite but it works fine haha.
Here is how it sits today.

Dude, your Jeep looks good. Thats one hell of a fire. Not too many people have pics like that. Thanks for sharing!!

Yeap, me and one of the 10 people that stopped to help tried everything to get it out. I had the hood open and a gust of fire went in my face and i dropped it while i was trying to get the bar to hold it up and the hood slammed shut and got jammed and that was it...Tried kicking through the grill and beating the heck out of it and it was just nuts...Just had to step back and watch it burn...

I work at a ford dealer and have sold hundreds of the harnesses to fix that problem. To anyone else on here that has a 1990's ford of any make, call the service dept. at your local ford dealer with your vin number and they can tell you if your vehicle falls under the recall. It's crazy but I've seen vehicles that were fine for 10-12 years catch fire. One guy here in town managed to burn down his truck and his garage:(

Yea i have read tons of stories on google and such. The thing is that the part was never replaced on the truck and after if happened we went to the dealership and they told us it was replaced but they had no proof or history of it being done...We stay away from that dealership now...

RustyRenegade 03-23-2010 12:39 PM

Well that's weird. It's not hard to find out the parts a customer has purchased unless the repair was done at another dealer. Maybe that's what happened. Either way, the dealer wouldn't owe anyone anything either way so I don't think they were trying to screw you or anything. You should give them another try. I know there's some horse flop dealers out there but there's alot of good ones:thumbsup:

Yea i know there is a lot of good ones out there but these guys were rude to my grandparents (they bought the truck) about the enitre delima...

Today i went driving around ashland to a few body shops to get an estimate to fix a real nice rust spot. The owner of the last one i went to is going to sell me front and right fenders with a full set of stock flares for only $100!!!!! So i figured i would get out my old bondo skills and try to make the fender look halfway decent until i find time to replace them with the new fenders.
Yesterday i got all of the cancer out of it with a screwdriver and grinded it all out today. And since i had no metal to fab in there or a welder i got some tin foil and stuffed it into the hole and used it as a base to lay the bondo on. (this is just for kicks and giggles, i will be patching a piece of scrap in there and do it the right way sometime). All in all i think it came out okay...

That was some serious rust, but not a bad fix, hopefully it will hold untill you can do a more permanent fix. It looks good though, great Jeep:thumbsup:

A few days ago i finally got the guts to cut into my tub for the first time. I really like LED tailights so i went to Napa and bought two TruckLites LED tailights and i dont think i have ever had that much trouble with wiring something. I wasnt thinking right that day haha. Heres the finished product though. I am extremely happy with the results for my first time really doing anything like this!!!

I also finally bought a CB Radio. Always wanted one. Really easy to install and mount. Havent got to test it out yet though. I scan around a little but never find anything....:( Now i just need to find that Antenna extension i threw somewhere in my garage so i can properly install my head unit. It just kind of hangs out haha...

LED's look really good. What are you going to use as a license plate light?
