Well funny as this is. I moved to New Mexico and it did not work out well by any means so I applied to a few jobs from Utah to Florida and got a hit at Dresser Rand leading Edge Turbine Technologies as a Manual Machinist (my dream job!!!) here in Houston, Texas. Living in Cleveland.
Moved here and got a 8.8 rear axle swapped in as soon as I could. I had a shop replace my old Dana 35 with another one and they did a terrible job for way too much money.
I would have down the 8.8 but no garage, no tools, no way. Had 249 Axle and Drivetrain do the work and am very happy with it. Still need adjustable arms and track bar to make it perfect.
These will be replaced later when I find a great deal on them.
So far to make my jeep back into a daily driver I have replaced the entire front end such as tie Rod ends, track bar, drag ling, and tie od.
Also got rid of the old Sway Bar Disconnects taht were great but wimpy with some Heavy Duty Rubicon Express Discos.
Then made the ride a little more smooth with some Pro Comp shocks (replaced the rear shocks in Albuquerque also).
In the meantime my body on my jeep is slowly falling apart thanks to some wonderful rust eating it away like termites.
Found me a tub on Craigslist for cheap cheap cheap and I jumpd on it. Drove up to Hawkins to a kid that parts jeeps out at the age of 19 and loaded it in the back of the truck and ran on home with it. Next day I started tearing out crap I dont want in there such as the tie down loops in the bed of the tub, drilled the reamining bolt holding the right windshield hinge out, removed the rear fender flares, and a few other uneccessary bolts that I will not be using.
I have a lot of things I want to change while I am doing this tub swap. I found a Barnes 2" Drop skid plate I want to use.
I am contemplating using this as I want to do the 1"body lift and Motor Mount Lift to do the tummy tuck and wonder If I should find a 0" drop skid instead.
I also want to remove the factory jack bracket behind the passengers seat (just something to catch mud in my opinion.
The mounting nuts for the gas tank all need replaced and weld some new ones in that will not rust
What is a good option for hardware that will not ever rust. Stainless? Galvanized?
The body mount channnels I will be doing something with so I can drain them out as this is something that absouletely is destroyed on my jeep.
So maybe some square cut outs in between the mounting holes and brace the mounts. Or maybe remove the entire channel and fabbing u my own mounts that will not hold mud and water.
My GOAL WITH THIS TUB IS TO RESIST ANY RUST POSSIBILTIES IN THE LONG LIFE AHEAD OF IT!!!!
So guys I need some opinions and advice to help revive this jeep build and make this jeep the ultimate family camping, daily driver, rock punisher, and weather proof jeep that I bought it for.
