JMoore's LJ slow build

Finally decided to start a build thread on my 06 LJ. This is by far my favorite
jeep out of the four I have owned. I bought this jeep off of my dad. He bought it wrecked from Davey's jeeps and fixed it. It had damage to the hood, grill, and drivers fender. He replaced the hood and fender and fixed the grill. After about a full week in the garage it was done. He put front/rear bumpers w/ winch, 4" lift, and 33s on it to start with. Then upgraded to 35s about a year later. I bought the jeep soon after that and have done very little to it since.

The Jeep: Updated 8/20/14
06 LJ
4.0 6 speed
HPD30/D44 with 4:88's/ARB lockers
Clayton 4" Pro Series LA
Currie Front Antirock
JKS 1.25" BL and 1" MML
AtoZ rock sliders
AtoZ front bumper/ ARB rear bumper w/ tire carrier
Superwinch EPi 9.0
ARB twin air compressor
35x14.50x15 Nitto Mud Grapplers
Ion Alloy 15x10
ZJ V8 steering upgrade
4" LED tail lights
Kenwood CD player w/ Kicker speakers

Future upgrades:
High clearance skid
Currie steering

I will post pics up as soon as I can get it figured out.

I've had the jeep for about a year and a half now and done a couple small upgrades.

First I installed some 4" LED tail lights. I ended up finding some that I liked at wal-mart.

tail lights removed

marked the hole and started drilling!

driver side done

started passenger side

wired up ready to install

finished product!

Here is a couple pics of the V8 ZJ tie rod conversion I did. I ordered all the parts off amazon.com for under $100 bucks and that included a Monroe steering stabilizer. Tie rod, adjustable sleeve, and tie rod end were all Moog.

Are you going to add a license plate illumination light back?

Yeah I plan on adding a license plate light back on there. I might just end up going with the license plate bolts that shine down on the plate. But I also thought about relocating the plate to the middle of my spare tire when I get one. I kinda forget about it until I pass a cop when it's dark out !!

And dayriesw I have looked at your build thread. Nice work man. Love that color!

When I got the jeep the fender flares were faded big time. So I had to give them a fresh black coat!

started taping off the flares

adding a little paint

Yeah I like those bolts and I want to swap the rear lights too. I relocated my license plate to the tire and added a genright plate light on a previous jeep. I'll stay tuned to yours and thank a lot.

Thanks man! The 4cyl did great for crawling. Didn't really have enough power to spin the tires. it would just go! Kind of lacked in power for the long mud holes though! But I enjoyed it.

Future upgrades

Suspension: I currently have the Rough Country 4" x-series. The lift is about 3 years old now and is just about worn out. It needs control arm bushings and front/rear track bar bushings. I think I am ready to part ways with this lift and find a new setup. I'm looking at the Clayton 4" pro series long arm. I like the 4 link rear/ 3 link front combo this lift offers.

Gears/axles: I'm planning on upgrading to 4:56/4:88's, chromoly axle shafts, and ARB lockers front/rear.

After the new lift and axle upgrades I also want to get:
JKS 1.25" BL and 1" MML purchased
Matching spare wheel/tire
Currie front antirock
UCF high clearance skid
Savvy gas tank skid
Riddler diff covers
