Just curious as the bitter old seems to be very dangerous for engines.
60/ 40 antifreeze/water or even more would have saved it. Draining the cooling system doesn't necessarily get all the coolant out

50/50 is fine down here in the south but it wasn't enough for the cold that north threw at it.

That's what was in it, did not even think to tell Jason we only have to run 50/50 mixture in the south.

I only run 50/50 here in the Chicago land area. And we saw some cold temps.

I have always run 50/50. Same with all my family's cars. Of course we live down here in the cities which isn't quite as cold. Anyway, I'm very sorry to hear about your engine!

I think the problem with Jason's was sitting in a garage in the extreme cold not being ran at all. I had a truck freeze sitting at my moms house for 2 weeks in the cold with no one starting it. It had a 50/50 mix and froze solid. I have seen slush in mine here in TN if I did not start it for a couple days.

I think if I would have had a stronger mix like 70/30 I would have been ok. Generally vehicles are fine here with 60/40 mix but we had a LOT of horrid temperatures that lasted months here this last winter.

Yep. This is exactly what happened. No radiator and drained the best I could. Had to have some residual coolant somewhere that froze.

I wouldn't even know what to ask for it. I can tell you I have more money into it than I paid for it at this point.

In the future on projects and boat engines pour straight antifreeze in the engine when it sits in winter. Will save you an engine

Never happened in the last 20 years of owning motorized vehicles. I guess 1 out of 30+ engines isnt bad.
