The 5.3s are darn good engines. All the LS series engines are IMO some of the most reliable and best running engines out there. I'm a big GM guy though so take my word for what it is...

I do not disagree with you on the drivetrain end. I however am not a GM guy. Again this will come down to cost and availability. This is not a race car. It does not need to make huge power. A 5.9 is a nice little torque monster that will run forever and make v8 noises.

I will say, it won't make this Jeep any less bad*** if it was sporting a 5.9

John did an awesome job on this jeep. I'm just trying to take to the next level and make it my own at the same time. I think it deserves a v8! Lol

I like what you've done so far. The color, tire, and wheel combo looks great!

I built a HEMI tj and while the v8 was nice on the street it was over kill on the trail. If I were to do it again I would do a 4.6 l stroker or a 5.3l with the new 6 spd TRANS.

I think I'm going to have to do it this way. There is no way I'm doing a 5.3 at this point because of cost. Its ridiculous. I will be doing a 5.9 Magnum motor which will need to be freshened up along with rebuilding the trans. Drive it for a year while I'm rebuilding the drivetrain and then do the swap.

Here I my 2 cts. I put an AMC 360 from a Waggoneer in my CJ. I did some research and found a local guy that experience with AMC V8s. He had another one in his shop at the same time. I was very clear with want I wanted. Reliability and torque were my top 2 requirements. Bored it 30 over. Valve job on stock heads b/c they flow great. Custom Comp cam. I can get specs for you. Edelbrock intake, carb and exhaust. Pertronics HEI distributor
Engine Stan dyno
325 hp
400 ft/ lbs
10,000 miles on it so far and the best V8 sound ever. It idols at 600rpm and sounds like a coked up Harley. I love it and its a Jeep

I have the same idea just using a fuel injected Magnum motor.

The WK is sold and will be leaving tomorrow. The wife and I are going to try and make it work with just her car for a couple months. Looking at picking up a 10-up Tundra Crewmax. I also need to find a light weight trailer for the TJ. I have no idea where to even start. I have always borrowed trailers. Any suggestions on what would be a good setup behind the Tundra? I would like to keep the weight down and dont need anything bigger than what would be needed for just my TJ.
