Simple answer, it came from a YJ so it needs mounts for a TJ. The axle shafts are smaller or weaker IIRC. Axle disconnect is something that the YJ had. It disconnects the drive shaft so that the shaft isn't spinning unless it is in 4wd. The drive shaft was not balanced and would vibe it it spun at highway speed. TJ shafts are balanced, so they spin with the front axle.

In short, not worth it for you if he dropped it in your garage for free (unless you swapped the carrier with yours to get the gearing).

Unless you need the axle for a YJ, I wouldn't bother with it either. It's here if anyone needs it, for free, if they can come and get it.

Didnt think it would work....but I am on the lookout for HP D30 that will work. If I truss it, then it would be as good as a D44 for ALOT less $$$$.

I have a D30 with 4.88's and Lock-Rites that I would sell or trade. The HP D30 isnt high on my list, but I wont turn down a good deal if I find one.

I don't look for problems....They find me.

Come to Indy. There are about 4-5 XJ HP30's (bolt into a TJ) in great shape sitting in the junkyard on any given day. I'll go pull you one for a small fee.

Look at your axle, look where the positioning of the pinion is on the back of the diff. You will see that it's on the low side.

Now go look at an HP30 and see what's different? The pinion is raised up.

A pinion and ring gear intersect perpendicularly so that pinion is either rotating the ring gear on the bottom (LP) or top (HP). It's very easy to see the difference. If you don't already know, the drive shaft is connected to the yoke, which is connected to the pinion. Not all XJ's had the HP30 you want so do a little research before you pull one. You don't want the disconnect HP30 or the LP30 from the late XJ's. 95-99 will for sure have a HP30 you want.

SORRY FOR THE HIJACK, JEFF!

What are you planning for a TT? Something like UCF, Savvy, Rockmen?

At this point it's more like wishing.

A TT that's flush with the frame, Rokmen control arms, and new drive shafts would all have to be done at that time as well.....so it's on the back burner for now.

It's time to finish up what I've bought and enjoy it for awhile.
