Yes I do...

You can see the spreader going accross the top of the picture. Also notice the packing for the upcoming trip to southwest Colorado. So far: One tent, three bags, three bed rolls, three self inflating pillows, rain gear...well you get the point. Without the frame there is a lot of room above the wheel well that wasn't usable before.

Internal strap to tighten the front end of the top and the fiberglass bows to the sides of the streamer bars to keep the top tight and the rain off!

Feeding a fattie

I added a brace to the fugly. I ran it from an angle section to the swing out carrier. I also added another upright with a section of square tube just cus it was a reason to strike a bead and practice welding.

I wish I could have got a bigger u-bolt, but the local hardware store I went was tapped out. And Lowe's just had their grand opening today...support local

Looking forward to seeing your masterpiece in person! If it makes you feel better... I busted off my second shock mount in a little over a week due to my amateur welds. I TIG'd them on, and had really bad access... so they didn't last. Stick welded the one back on, doing the second one tomorrow. Learning to weld is fun, and seeing your welds fail is very educational. One day you'll step up to a MIG and wonder how you ever stick welded... but all the welding you do until then will be very educational! I wish I would have started with a stick welder... cause now learning how to stick weld just pisses me off after initially learning with a MIG.

Lowe's opened today? That's awesome. I am typically opposed to the big box stores coming in... but I am so fed up with the hardware stores that we have. Between the ridiculous hours and the complete lack of any sense of customer service... they regularly show me how much they don't give a crap about my business. I hate to say it, but... bring on the Lowe's. I will enjoy that when I get back up there. I felt the same way about the auto parts stores. Even though the people at the new Auto Zone may not be the most knowledgeable, and Auto Zone in general doesn't carry a lot of the stuff I need... they always interact with me without grunting.

4 days and counting... I see you are already packing! Should be a great trip!

Funny you say that. I look at Lowes and cant help but think of poor customer service, horrific selection of tools and hardware, and overall bad experiences. All of my business goes to Home Depot if at all possible. Cross your fingers for one of those coming to a location near you soon!

OT - rack looks great. You going to have it powdercoated or just good ole' Rustoleum?

The rack may not survive the trip so I didn't want to invest much into it. The powder coat would cost more than the rack

Time will tell I suppose. Worst case scenario I receive the same horrible service the local stores provide... with what can't be a worse selection... but it will be cheaper and I will be able to go there after 5 on weekdays... after noon on saturdays... and amazingly I will be able to go to a hardware store on sundays now!

I forgot you missed the day I took it out on chinaman this spring and let everyone see it running. Last time you saw it, it was still under surgery. It still has a lot of detail work to be completed as well as a few larger projects to wrap up the build... But it is getting around pretty nicely right now.

Now that I've seen it, it is sweet. Unfortunately, the trip was hard on your rig Hope you are back up and running again soon.

Fugly Lives

Well, the rack made it. In a way, a minute way, I passed my first welding exam! The rack did not fail and is showing no signs of weakness.

Some poser shots...

Thanks, I like it... however I have to say I liked it more before I rolled it!

It was good to see you this trip... sorry I missed the second half of it.

Fugly survived!
