hey guys thought i'd jump on jeepfourm and show y'all my yj build.im new to this site so bare with me.ive got a 1988 jeep yj it was 100% stock when i bought it at age 16.ive been slowly buying things for it,my plans are to drop a cummins 3.9l 4bt into it.so ill post some pictures of my build and how im going to do it.feel free to comment and give suggestions along the way :cheers2:
Pictures of the tear down.it took me around 7 hours to take everything off,and another 2 hours to remove engine, trany, transfer, axles and other odds and ends.this yj had the 2.5 motor ax-5 trans,Dana 35 rear 30 front.I sold most everything on craigslist and set that aside for my 4bt.
I don't have picture of my axles yet but,I've got Dana 44 front and rear out of a 88 waggy from ebay for 300.the rear has limited slip diff I'm going to be putting either 4.88 gears or 4.56.the front I'm thinking of a lunch box locker.I'm going to be springing over the axles myself.
Picture of 4bt and nv4500 the transfer case isn't in the picture but ill be using the stock np 231.ppl told me I couldn't mount the np231 to the nv4500,but I called up advanced adapters and they said they make an adapter input shaft for 180$.
Here's how she lays right now, grinded the frame down and she's ready to be sprung over, ill post pictures and details of how I'm going to do it along the way probably won't be for a couple weeks.if you have any questions please ask ill try to answer them.
deja vu. to my build. '88 white wrangler with the same "Hmm, this is becoming more involved than I really intended" feeling. But hopefully it will be really fun when done.
In the future yes.but I'm going with springs for now cus its easy.when I work out all the bugs and get it driving down the road, then ill start saving for some king coilovers.
Just ordered rubicon express 6 leaf soa springs, bushing kit,and currie u bolts.should be in this week.can't wait to start putting her back together hoping to have it back on a rolling chassis soon.
Made some spring perches for the rear Dana 44,my tape measure looked like 3" and every one online said that the diameter was 3".after finishing one I realized it was to big!!! So I got the verniers out and its not 3" its 2 3/4".oh well my fault for not double checking.I just went ahead and ordered some from ebay should be in next week.
