I put together a little list of tricks I wish I had known that would have saved me time... maybe someone will come across them in a search and it'll help them out.
  • The diff cover may not want to come off, tap it with a heavy hammer (I used a sledge) and it'll come free like nothing.
  • To remove the carrier put a 5/8" box wrench on one of the ring gear bolts and turn the drive shaft with a big adjustable wrench at the U joint. That will pry the wrench against the housing and it should come free.
  • Getting the roll pin (I think that's what it's called) out was a major PITA for me, make sure you have the correct size punch; 3/16th
  • If it isn't clear in your instructions (it wasn't in mine) when you install the Aussie put in driver and passenger side shaft connections (the end pieces) with their thrust washers first then the other 4 pieces slide in two by two (spacers inside already and the pins in the deeper, open holes. You will slide them to the other side to install the spring after everything is in).
  • Getting the carrier back in is somewhat tricky, make sure everything is lined up correctly then if it still won't seat use a 1 x 1 "shaft" of wood and a hammer (like a large punch) to coax it.
  • I used 85W140 oil per recommendation of 4x4explor.com and it's completely silent I can't hear a thing when driving in circles.

Great write up! what brand oil you use? mobil1 or coastal? Also are you gonna change the front diff?

That was the front diff Oil is Valvoline.

My rear already has a Detroit True-Trac in it and it's oil was changed about 4k miles ago.

I'm headed to the store now for engine oil, going to change that and find out why my headlights won't turn off high beam once the highs are switched on

I actually have one of those in a cabinet somewhere... I never use it the internet proves to be a better source 90% of the time. I found what it was anyways. In order to have parking lights I wired the LED by pinching the positive and negative leads into the connection between my stock headlight connection and the male end that goes to the HID harness... turns out that was jumping the connection and causing the high beams to stay on even when they're off on the dash. Lesson learned...

really sweet build. Its given me some great ideas for my YJ. I was wondering, are you going to go back and black out the rear corner guards or just leave them the way they are?

Holy sheet, the jeep is looking sick. Nice work and have fun up at school, we'll have to go wheelin when you get back. Thanks for the heads up on the Aussie Locker install as well.

Thanks I may go back later but right now I'm enjoying the two tone with the aluminum corners and parts of the Metalcloaks

They are all just CB antennas but I took all but one off since then.

I changed the oil yesterday (big deal right? ) Mobil 1 full synthetic 10w30 then installed a little LED panel that finally came in the mail for the dome light




It's worlds brighter than the stock bulb and total cost: $2

Looks good my friend! Are you going to get flares for the MetalCloaks in the future? I've been playing with the idea of tube fenders since I'm kind of bored with the stock ones. I had originally thought the MCE plastic flattys now that they have the flared version ($350) but now that I've seen the TNT flared ones I'm kind of thinking that direction. Or maybe just build my own Anyway, sweet build. Now that you've spent all your graduation money on the Jeep, any plans for it's future?
