Heres a small update. I picked up my engine tonight! I got it a little cheeper because the guy I bought it from ran out of gas and I rescued him off the side of the road. lol So I got it for $380 with everything. Next up on my list are the engine mounts and bell housing and I should be one my way. I do need to pick up a fuel pump out of another jeep because mine WAS carbed. Any suggestions from the guys that have done the swap?

Start planning now!

Here are some things to plan for:

Cooling
Clutch fan or electric (need to push engine back to fit a good sized radiator and run an engine mount fan)
Engine mounts/clearnace issues
Pushing the engine back in the body a few inches (to clear radiator/fan)
Trans mount/support
Trans shifting, trans cooling, speedo output compatability (if running auto)
Clutch linkage/slave cylinder compatability, shifter position, speedo output adaptability (all for standard trans)
Skidplates/armor
T-case (SYE, lift or lower)
Driveshafts (front and rear may change in length)
Rear end upgrade (if necesary) also adding a traction bar
Fuel delivery (upgrading stock fuel lines, pump, return if required)
Wiring (this can be a HUGE pain in the a$$ and wallet, extending wiring depending on alternator position)
Exhaust
Steering/power steering lines and compatability

Just some food for thought. Make a list! I use a legal pad and put 2 items on each page, 1 at the top and 1 in the middle so Inhave plenty of room to write out how to approach each issue (plenty of room to write down mistakes and corrections as well) Keep organized! Try to pick your parts and work up to getting them either used or on sale/clearance. Better to spend 3 weeks poking in Craigslist and getting a B&M shifter for $40 used than to pay $250 for a new one and have it overnight shipped.

RESEARCH IS YOUR FRIEND! Look at how others did it and see what works.

A very very smart man once told me this:

A Smart Man learns from his mistakes; a Wise Man learns from the mistakes of others.

91 YJ, 350/700R4/231, 8.8/HPD30 with 3.73s, 6" SOA with 38" TSLs. If I ever see the previous owner again, I am going to curb stomp that meth-head brain dead crackpot.

Thanks man! I have a list in my head but I think ill need to write it down like you said. Going to be taking my time on this so each step should be pretty well thought out.

No real time frame, I have no agenda I want to be able to pull my current motor and have everything in place to get it done quickly. Im on the hunt for a bellhousing I wont get real serious until I find one. My current motor still runs just has a slight tick /knock it did great on Saturdays wheeling trip so we shall see mines an extreme budget swap. I finally sold my old dana 35 with 4.56 gears yesterday to pay for the motor, so far its been free.

Yes I cant speak for shooter but I will be running my external slave ax-15 I swapped in a few years ago so that bellhousing will be up for sale as soon as this gets rolling. Sorry for the highjack shooter back to your regularly scheduled badass 5.9 swap.

I'm glad to see more folks sticking with Mopar v8s, keeping it in the family and all that! I'll be watching and will help out when I can.
