Alright, so to begin, I'll be a junior this year and my dad is giving me his 2009 JK with the 6 speed manual. It's the X so it's pretty much bone stock. The only things non factory are a bikini top which has gone on once, and I installed a lock box under the driver seat to store my phone, wallet, and what not in while I go places to run (I do cross country). Size: 307.6 KB Another thing to know, due to Indiana's driving laws, I can't get my license for another 2 months, so the jeep will be sitting in the driveway until then. This thread I'll just be showing what I did and ask for the occasional tips, so sit back, relax, and make some popcorn!

I had some major issues today. My family just got back from a vacation and we took the jeep to the story to get groceries. It hasn't been driven for 6 weeks, and it started up right away out to the garage. We drove the mile and a half to the store no problem, with no indication of anything going wrong. After 45 minutes, we got back to the jeep and it wouldn't start. We tried jumping it and had 4 people helping us (thank you fellow jeep oner that works at Martin's) and it wouldn't start. My dad said if it wouldn't start after 20 minutes, get it towed. So it's now sitting at the mechanic and I'm waiting to hear back on the issue.

Got the jeep back, radio won't work, no clock, no messages. Anyone know what this is?

Pull the top off the fuse box and grab your owner's manual......sounds like you blew at least one fuse trying to jump it.
Owner's manual should have a layout for the fuse box (may also be on the underside of the box lid).

It's on the top of the box cover. The battery was dead? Sounds kinda fishy to me, you didn't leave it for that long.

I found the M12 fuse blown. That's the one for the amplifier. Should I check them all just to be sure? The radio unit appears to be the only thing not working.

It started and then drove but died later. That's what's questionable. I would replace that fuse first and then see if all is functioning right before cracking all others.

Size: 390.4 KB Working in the garage to the soundtrack of rain. I got a new fuse and put it in. The radio and all works great. Thanks to LeighP for suggesting the fuses.

On a side note, does anyone know where I can find that little rubber piece that fits between the hood and the side panel under the hood latch. I seem to be missing one.

Looking on the good ol' craigslist I found a set of running boards for $50. I thought that's a good deal. They're off a stock 12 jk, or that's what the seller said. The downside is is that they're chrome. How hard would that be to paint black?

Hey! Another kid who got a Jeep sophomore year! Me too! Im gonna be a senior this year. But I have a Cherokee...Any plans to lift? Obviously im a different person than you, but try to ask yourself if you really want running boards...I know I prefer my Jeep to look as high as possible, so I don't use running boards and if it sits too high later on, im getting either small steps/chains or something, or rock sliders with small steps...Just saying maybe you should ask yourself if it's an impulse buy or not. Cuz if you're anything like me you'll be kicking yourself later when that $50 could be put towards a subwoofer or lift or tint or whatever (or gas)...Anyways, your choice

Painting chrome.....you can, but its going to be something that'll need the occasional touch up.
Sand the chrome with some 300-400 grit wet and dry to give the paint something to stick to. Clean it really well with wax and grease remover, after that don't touch it with bare fingers. Use some wire coat hangers to hang the rails - I like to use the clothes line for stuff like this. Use a coat of spray can Etch Primer to promote top coat adhesion.
Follow the directions for top coating after priming....usually within an hour is fine....for the top coat, I like VHT Engine Enamel GM Satin Black. Engine enamels are a tough paint that stick well....and the VHT GM Satin Black covers well and looks good.
Glad that fuse fixed your radio.

Leigh

This is what they look like. I told the guy I would rather pay $50 and get ones that are already black
