Im a junior in high school and have been a jeep owner for about 2 years now. My first jeep was a 1988 wrangler that i traded for a 1997 ZJ that i had intil September when i sold it for $2200. October 11 i went to an auto action with my unchle who is a dealer and was hoping to buy something. i was looking around the lot and saw this 01 XJ. i only had $1400 on me and i wasn't confident about being able to buy it with that money. it was the first thing to go throught the auction and we bought it for $900. now we saw that it had stop leak in the radiator and thought the wost is that we would put a motor in it. we didnt buy anything else so we were able to bring it home that night ( one dealer plate ). I did some reserch on here and found the 0331 head problem and that was what it was. i got it to my house to fix it to put it on the road so here are some pic's of it at my house]
so me and my dad tore the head off and found the crack between the 3rd and 4th cylinders. so we then headed to the junk yard to look for a replacement and found a whole set of d-window rims in the back of a 94 XJ they must have just put into the yard. i got all 4 for $50 because of a sale they were having. other wise it would have cost me close to $100. so i had the discover stt's from my zj and put them onto the d-windows. so after a week or two my boss was talking to my dad ( we both work at wegmans ) about a 96 XJ he had for sale for 650 on cragslist. My dad told him about my XJ and then he told my dad we could have it for 500. he told me this and told him to deliver it for $550. he said ya and i was the owner of 2 XJ'S. we took the whole motor, trans, and transfercase out in one shot. now the tranny, transfercase and bottom half of the motor are sitting in my garage. we took the head off the 96 and pulled it out of the garage. after pulling mine back in we put the head on and we were back up and running. i got it inspected at the begining of december and had it on the road. i drove it for about 2 months before i started to fix the little things and upgrades. some pictures.....
now i have got all the hubcaps and gave the interior a good cleaning and put some speakers in it so i would have some radio to listen to. i got the Christmas tree on the top of the XJ and picked my dads wrangler up from my uncles house after we got my Jeep. then i was thinking about a lift but i didnt want to do another BB so i got to thinking about the thunderbird and chevy lift or known as the junkyard lift. i went down to look for thunderbirds and found one. got the struts out and got one spring off ok. then we were taking the second one off when the nut stripped out and discharged the spring and almost broke my dads finger. after that we found out that they where broken. so im just going to buy a new set of them from the parts store for $99. the project i have been working on latly is painting the brezel and plastic trim. also the angry or evil eyes mod. i used just 500* engine paint to do the grill and head lights. i did them a week ago but they have been holding up so far. pictures .......
Just finished painting the front bumper end caps last night. Tonight I'm going to try to get the fender flares and side molding painted before I have to go to work in order to get the rear leafs from the jy.
thanks. and ya im trying to get it the way i want it and hopefully be there soon. well today i went to autozone and bought a pair of front thunder bird springs. they are brand new and were only $85!. i might paint them but im not sure yet. i got one side of the trim painted and now i ran out of tape so i got to get some tomorrow and finish it up. on the rear bumper caps im going to remove them and take care of the rust there before it turns to cancer. i will post up some pictures of the trim before and after and maybe start the rear bumper. in about two more weeks and i will have the funds to put the lift in and finally put my 31's on that have been sitting in my basement since November! the first picture is the new thunderbird coils. second is my xj and my dads yj. last is my xj with the 31's as a test fit
Last night I decided it was time to finally put my 31's on. The reason they weren't on before is because I would have had to trim the bumper. Well I was bord a decided to trim and make them fit. I will have to get pictures later tonight when I get home but I really like the way it sits now : D
as promised pictures!!!!! i have found out that i have a blown shock in the back on the drivers side. also a picture of the progress i have done on the drive side rear where the "cancer" or rust was. i am starting to get ready to patch it up and make it look good again. if you have any imput or want more pictures then let me know!
thanks i was kinda patient and it paid off in the long run. so tonight i took the jeep to get dinner and the rear tires rub the fender flares because of bumps in the road and a blown shock so i did a little research and ran to the parts store and picked up a set of lift/lowering Shackle's. they were $19 with tax for the set. it is a good thing i don't have my license yet because i'm going to attempt to put them on tomorrow. and i'm going to throw the 3 inch cones up front just for now so i don't rip the fender flares off. The Shackle's go from like a 2 inch lift to like a 4 or 5 inch lift. i hope they hold long enough to get a good lift ordered. i will try to get pic's as i go. last pic is my helper as i finished painted the rear bumper caps and side trim.
Thanks! I have had them for almost 3 years now and wear great. Had them on both mine and my dads jeeps and they do good in the mud. i will try to post a link to a video to them on my old zj digging in the mud. ok i dont know if this link will work but it is worth a shot. the last picture we are only stuck because it is a yj and not an xj : D http://www.facebook.com/video/video...71450336203975
