The Heirloom

Here we go! My Dad (original owner) thought is was a good time to pass this beauty on to the next generation, and I'm the lucky recipient! Bone stock California 1984 CJ7 Renegade in very good condition. My plan is get it safe and drivable as a daily driver, but will likely only get driven on nice days. And up here in Washington, that's not too many. I plan to keep it "as-is stock" as much as possible. No serious wheeling for me. I love the look of this 30 year old jeep and do not want to restore it all the way back to showroom condition. I likely won't even restore the paint. After 197000 miles, it definitely needs front end work to tighten up the slop, and has all of the "normal" jeep leaks. My Dad kept it in his garage and now its in mine, but it hasn't been driven much in past 10 years. This will be my "toy" for the next few decades until I pass it down to one of my kids.

Top off

Had to get the top off. Utilizing the jeep to pull out some unwanted bushes.

First work

First thing I had to do was to remove the old stereo, which I installed about 15 years ago, and new speakers. Installed a Retrosound stereo and new waterproof speakers. Still needs a new antenna, but sounds much better.

Tub Rust Assessment

I've been wanting to pull the carpet (original) to give it a good cleaning and to check for rust. Pleasantly surprised at the condition! Needs a new carpet kit, but not too bad.

Windshield Frame

The only real rust issue on the Jeep is on the windshield frame. The windshield and mirrors need to be replaced due to age, so I took it off to see how extensive the rust is. I've seen some horror stories here on JF. Thankfully, mine looks like mostly surface rust. I'm going to hit it with a wire wheel and some rust dissolver and see if it needs to be filled anywhere. Should just be a quick repaint, new gaskets, a new windshield, new mirrors, and I'm good to go.
