I am really enjoying the CTD, its fun to drive and I have always loved the sound of a diesel!

Got a couple hours shop time today. I was supposed to have 8 full hours but I had to do some school work. Still planning to pull the factory cage and dash on spring break to build a full cage!

Bent the plate for the driver's side fender, then bent the tube to the same angle as the other side. I bought some D rings on Amazon, they're less than $8 each and can handle the weight of the TJ and then some. I'll have to give it a little more bracing so it doesn't rip off the 3/16 plate. I tacked them in place, nothing is fully welded yet. I think I want to do some small tweaks still before I glue it all together.

I also ordered one of their 2" receiver hitches, 6" long, for only $15 to add to the rear bumper. So I'm also ordering one more D ring to put one on each side of the rear bumper also. Hopefully this will help someone with their cheap bumper build.

Well I'm supposed to go wheeling on sunday so I guess I should start working on this again

I adjusted the driver tube then burned everything in




And dimpled the fender inserts



Also wired up the CB finally, replaced the front diff cover bolts, and a bunch of other little stuff. Still need to shorten the clutch rod and finish painting the front tube work. Then mount the winch, wire it up, etc. Still haven't finished the rear bumper or mounted the sliders.

Started on the rear bumper, bent it up and tacked it together.



Since I ordered the hitch, I wanted to run a tube across it for strength, but don't have much 1.75 DOM left but have a whole stick of 1.5 left over...but how to bend it? Hmmm....



Its a sleeve for the tube bender die and runner, so its essentially an adapter to bend 1.5" tube.



Works well!



I bent up both sides and tacked on the hitch but ran out of time and forgot to take a picture, I'll snap some tomorrow.

Looks cool, great idea on the sleeve for the die. What bender is that? And size of Die other than 1.75. What degree?

Looking to buy a bender this week and need some info to sway my decision.

Bender is a JMR Sportsman that I converted to air over hydraulic. Die is a 6" CLR Pro Tools 1-3/4, max degree setup (I think its 270* or something like that). I like this setup a lot, its easy to use, the air over hydro conversion makes it easy to keep an eye on the setup and the degree ring.

The JMR stuff is top notch and can use either JMR or Pro Tools dies. The Sportsman is their entry level bender but its not even close to being cheap quality. I recommend it or a ProTools HD. The JD squared bender only accepts JD dies and I didn't like the design are much.

Lining up the hitch



I didn't take pics after I notched and fitted the tube but this is how it turned out. Some welding porn for you guys too.







Fitted, clearanced, and ready to be painted. Has 12 bolts holding it to the rear crossmember and it also ties into the body mounts. Hoping it doesn't go anywhere!

Also started on the sliders and got the driver's side pretty much done. More on this later.



For those curious - both 35 Krawlers, one with a 15x10 beadlock and the other a steel 15x8 wheel

That rear bumper looks great! I might add some gussets with holes in them in the corners from the tube down the sides of the receiver. Where else will you hook your safety chains?

I know you said you love the Krawlers, but could you explain why you like them so much? I'm looking into buying 35s for my next set of tires. Right now im looking into the Maxxis Trepador, but im not dead set on a tire yet still shopping. so maybe a small pro/con list of the Krawlers?

Thanks! Yeah I was planning to add gussets but don't have time right now and want to wheel. Chains could hook to the d rings but I don't tow much with a Jeep, I have my Cummins for that. This is for little stuff or tight spaces.

I am not gonna put too much more into the bumpers on this TJ. I'll fill in the front fenders and add a rear tire carrier but I am already planning to cut off the front and rear of the frame - or ditch it altogether. I also might leave this TJ alone and start building a new rig based on a CJ/YJ tub. There are a lot of things I want to do differently but I'm still happy how this rig turned out. It will get a cage this spring/summer to finish out the armor and safety items then it will probably remain unchanged.

Sure. The Krawlers are like cheating. I ran a local trail called Naches in 2wd in the summer. Everyone else was in 4wd. I only needed help on one huge hill and I nearly made it (too dusty). After we got back to camp, everyone was complaining about how easy it was for me to make it up Anteater hill without any help and others had problems

If you can find them used, you can save a lot of money. Otherwise some Kevlar MTRs or Maxxis Creepy Crawlers would be on my list.

My buddy runs 35in krawlers and I have the mtr's.

In the rock. My tires do te same if not better. Unless your running red label stickies (which they don't even make in a 35). There not worth it IMO Save your money

They do look ****in sweet though haha

That's funny you say that because 2 or 3 guys in our group had MTRKs and didn't have the traction I did.
