Indeed. The top hinge pin is gone on one and they seem pretty expensive. If ebay doesnt turn up a single one instead of set of 4 I will just find a piece of steel rod and weld it in there. for now its a back burner project.

This was a first for me, And it went quite smoothly! the hardest part was the rollpin until I found a better way to get her out. still need more tube cleaning, this 30 came out of a mudder and it was packed with mud.
Also got the ujoint from hell off the pass side shaft, it was the original and the c clips were fused on. had to grind them off! the other side took 33 seconds to get all 4 off lmao. round 2 of cleaning comes tomorrow, the seals go in, the carrier goes in. and if I make a trip to the store, the joints+shafts go back in.
TRE's are shot. debating on stealing my set off the old 30, or buying some "chromoly" steering with hiem joints off craigslist for 100. it looks kind of wimpy but about the same price as all new tre's

I did that install last fall on my front 30. It was a whole lot easier than I imagined it would be. Got mine done in an evening, though I had a buddy that helped, plus I had replaced my hubs recently and had antisieze on all the right bolts so no troubles there. Lookin' good man

low of -23 today, but things are looking up on the 10 day forecast. I saw some 40's in there.

Starting tomorrow I am getting my @$$ in gear on this. First up is putting the tcase back in and skid, cant believe its still sitting in the basement
Then I have to find a new place for my front jackstands, they are in the notch of the spring hangers and this particular set sticks out too far to attach the springs(mil wrap). problem is the stands are too short to go anywhere else, already sitting on a couple 6x6 blocks.

One thing that's bugging me, I really wanted to pull the tf999 and relocate the vent but the clock is ticking and its a stressful project drilling through the case, so Im skipping it. sure it will bite me later! Soon enough this thing will start coming together, I hope!
Miss it!

Got the tc bolted back in today, and a few other odds and ends.
Also my solid d30 cover came in. I have to give these guys props. Came in 2.5 days, came with 2 big stickers and a full tube of black rtv. All that on top of being the best priced cover. They will get my business again!

More parts are on the way:
  • Wanted to build some Sliders. i went to 6 different steel shops and couldnt find anyone with a price lower than $80 for just the steel, not counting the tubing. so e-auto sliders it is.
  • VSS because I broke the nut off, and 91 is the bastard year that had the electric and cable sensor
  • Front diveshaft and axle U-joints, and the little plastic guards that go on the axleshafts
  • Some random tools to make things easier like a fluid pump, knotted wire wheel, etc

Think I have everything needed to get it together now, except for the rear brake lines and the rear driveshaft which has to wait on the measurement.

Now some progress
Got the only one I had in

carrier in, 2nd try! I was anal about the cleanliness of all the parts, even brake cleaner+wire wheeled out the old grit from the cap bolts
That stuff eats up alot of time

cover and lubelocker fit well

And of course, dethaw session with the mimic

Thanks for the props!
As soon as fedex gets here with my axle ujoint, (I had one 260x and 1 297/760x :O )I will stab the dirty30 back in and check the steering angle. the pitfall is that my stock steering is crap and not sure how I'm going to address it.

The fridge is in the way to put the shaft back in after the d30 is under the jeep thats why the wait...nowhere to move it

and !

Today was the warmest day of the winter and I spent it staying late at work, looking at trucks, and bailing water out of my garage from snowmelt. getting sandbags tomorrow for the door side, we have 2 more days of warm and 1.5" rain coming. ground is so frozen it has nowhere to go! stupid house "PO" built it level with the ground and it has settled to be lower than ground.

Did manage do get my freshly arrived ujoint in the ps axle shaft and got that put back in and bolted down too.

Almost bought a 2000 f150 5.4 4door, but it was too good to be true. shut off the radio and heard a noticable hum that was speed dependant, didnt go away in neutral. back to the drawing board! pretty sure it was a pinion bearing

Pinion bearings aren't to hard to replace really, and could help negotiate the price in your favor
