Gibs Jeep

So to document/organize what I've done so far and will be doing with my WJ, I figure I'll post a thread here and update it with photos and info as I go.

2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Engine: 4.7 L V8
Suspension: 2'' budget boost/ Rancho 9000x shocks/ Rancho steering stabilizer/ Addco rear sway bar w/ energy susp. greaseable bushings/ JKS bar pin eliminators up front
Tires & wheels: 245/75-16 BFG all-terrain/ 16x7 black Cragar soft 8's
Power upgrades: K&N FIPK/ (soon to be installed) Kolak 3'' exhaust kit w/ Flowmaster 70 muffler/ Magnaflow catalytic converter/ 3'' mandrel bent tail pipe/ Magnaflow slash-cut tip
Recovery: (soon to be installed) Rustys front tow hooks....Thank you Kenbuck

My WJ as of right now....

The engine....

Kolaks 3'' exhaust kit, cant wait to get this installed....

Rustys tow hooks. One of 'em is bent, but will be pounded back to shape at work . The nice thing about these is that the hooks are horizontal, rather then the OEM hooks that point down. The horizontal hooks will hold the strap loop better before tension is pulled....

So this is pretty much phase 1 of my WJ. Phase 2 will be recovery and armor. Phase 3 will consist of 4'' maybe 5'' of lift with Claytons long arm kit, all necessary accessories for that lift and bigger tires (M/T's).

Any questions, comments, suggestions, opinions and mall-crawler haters are welcome.

Always loved the all black WJ. Looks very nice.

4-5" of lift?

Good luck with the build, she's a beauty.

Great wheeling shots, wish we had that terrain out here.

Thanks...

Yeah that'd be cool. I've been wanting to check out North Main Divide Rd. up there off the Ortega. Im sure you know of that trail. Its not challenging, but it looks like a nice trip up to Santiago Peak. Last I checked it was closed though. Im just waiting for when and if it opens again.

Got the Rustys tow hooks bent back to shape, re-painted and mounted....

Before....

Had to cut the plastic posts there on the bottom part of the fascia to make these hooks fit through. Oh well, gotta trim sometimes to make things work ...

Next up....
-Exhaust welded/installed
-Recovery strap
-Rear receiver shackle
-Heavy duty front diff. cover
-T-case skid
-Sliders

Anyone recommend a good recovery strap?

Nice Rig!

I now have a new screensaver, like that last pic best. I am looking at doing the same thing to a Grand Cherokee soon. Haven't found "THE ONE" yet. Looking at the 99-2000ish GC's with the 4.7. How is the gas mileage with your set-up, and how are the Rancho 9000's on adjustablility of the ride?
Thanx Gib

Thanks......

I've got 76K miles on it and I get 13.1 MPG according to the trip computer. I dont really worry about it though, I mean it is a V8. The Ranchos are great, I really like them a lot. I leave 'em at a firmer setting and they ride great (no complaints).

Good luck with your purchase . Be sure to stroll in the ZJ/WJ forum and ask questions there too.

Got the Kolak exhaust system installed today .

Pic from underneath is -- Magnaflow CAT/Flowmaster 70 muffler, joined together with 3'' tubing. The 3'' mandrel bent tailpipe is back there as well......

Pic of the how the Magnaflow slash cut exhaust tip fits with the body....

All in all Im very happy with the sound. Its not over baring at all, it has a nice tame rumble to it.

Performance wise, any HP gains are minimal. Theres a little more pep when I mash it though, but again its minimal. I think the K&N FIPK may help a little too.

MPG gains......None so far, but maybe as I drive it a little longer with the freshly installed exhaust kit, I'll see some gas mileage gains .

I'll try and get a video posted up of the sound for those who wanna hear it.
