So, it's taken me some time to get a build thread going on my ZJ and I decided to add a twist.
THIS thread is about TWO
ZJs. One is my wife's: "George", and the other is mine: "Weezy"
We bought George back in '09 because my wife needed a safe way to get the kids to school and to do our errands during the harsh Maine winters.
He's a Hunter Green Metallic, '94 Laredo, 4.0L, 42RE, NP231, 3.55s, and a power sunroof.
He had 154K on the clock when we bought him.
George is in excellent shape, considering he's been in New England most of his life. Although his rockers were gone, so I cut out the rusty metal and made some rocker/sliders to fit in their place!
We're the 5th family to "adopt" him.
We never even thought about taking George out wheeling until one day I decided we needed to check out the former County road that's 1/2 mile from our house. It's really only used by quads & snowmobiles now.
It's some pretty rugged terrain from how the yahoos around here have wheeled it for the last 30 years or so....
Anyway, after wheeling it lightly I was hooked!!!
That night I ordered a 3" BB with nitro shocks and the following morning at work I ordered a set of 31x10.5 Jetzon Mud Claws.
Put in the lift & put on the tires and took it for some wheeling at a local ORP every weekend for 3 months.
So, now move forward to February of this year.
My wife was tired of the scratches/scrapes George was getting during our wheeling trips, so I was on the hunt for a "new" wheeling rig.
With my tax refund in hand I set my sights on ZJs on Craigslist.
I looked at half a dozen MAJOR POS's for in excess of $1500 asking price.
All major rust-buckets!!!
So, then this one '93 catches my eye for $1200 that's about 5 miles away.
I went to look it over. It had been sitting for a while and had some surface rust starting in a couple of places, but nothing major.
The battery was dead, so the owner lady(total PSYCHO!!!) had another battery on the ground hooked up with jumper cables. It purred like a kitten, no knocks or ticks.
Test drive(please don't stall now that the cables are unhooked) revealed a spent VC, a couple bad control arm bushings, inoperative radio, and power windows that didn't work(visibly broken wire in the torn driver's door boot).
Brought it back and it stalled in the middle of the driveway. She asked "Well, what do you think?"
I replied "I won't give you a DIME over $500 for it. It needs a bunch of high dollar repairs, starting with the transfer case."
I turned and went to leave and as soon as I touched my door handle, she said "Okay, would you take it for $500?"
I said "SOLD!!!"
So, since my wife named her ZJ George, I decided to name her Weezy, like on "The Jefferson's".
Weezy is a Hunter Green Metallic, '93 Laredo, 5.2L, 46RH, NP249, 3.55s, and the Upcountry Package.
She had 203,964 miles on her clock, but surprisingly all her fluids were: A: at appropriate levels, B: acceptable color, and C: Smelled & felt fine!!
She's been an awesome rig, and wheels like a Mountain Goat climbs!!!
I'll go through the mods I've done to both ZJs in the next post.
Damn, this is getting long-winded... and it's getting late.
Thanks for reading!!
I'll post pics tomorry, I promise!!
