Also, yesterday I had my dad drive the Jeep forward and back in the driveway to figure out the clunking... it's my stupid Ballistic 2.63" joints at the axle.
Apparently they are known for wearing out quickly, but this is ridiculous! You can buy them with solid metal races now, at the time I got them it's only the nylatron races that they were built with. So I'm probably going to buy some 1.25" heims to replace them with. Not sure if I'll go heims for all 4 joints of my lowers, or if I'll use a combination of heims and poly bushings. We'll see what happens.
More money I wasn't accounting for

Try calling them and complaining. They might help make it right. That is a pretty large company on Pirate.

Yeah, if you read my entire build thread(a chore in itself ) you'll find I'm not pleased with any service from Ballistic. I'd be surprised if I got any parts I need from them within a month. They take...
YouTube - Forever
F O R E V E R to get crap to me it seems. IIRC it took a month for me to get HALF of one of my orders, then got the rest a week or two later. I also got a runaround with their 3" joints because their "TIG guy" wasn't there... for like 3 weeks straight.
I like some of their products, but I feel that $120 for Midwest Control heims would be worth ditching the Ballistic crap. Less stuff to fail.

Just made a thread on PBB about these joints wearing out so fast... here's some knowledge to be had:
How long do your Ballistic 2.63" joints last? - Pirate4x4.Com Bulletin Board
Basically buy them with the solid internals if you haven't got the joints yet. I'm going to be rebuilding all of them I guess with the nice internals. Cheaper than replacing with all heims... I've got so much crap to do/fix.

That sucks, though at $14 it's not that bad. Could be worse eh?

New Mexico Driving Rules...

As a general rule, the vehicle most in need of a significant amount of bodywork (for which the driver is most likely uninsured) always has the right of way.
Never use directional signals when changing lanes. They only serve to give away your next move, causing most NM drivers to speed up and not let you in. In fact, use of directional signals within most large NM city limits is actual illegal.
NM law states that at least 50% of all paved surfaces within the state must be under construction at any one time. In all construction zones, at least half of the available lanes must be closed, regardless of whether any actual construction is be accomplished or not. Construction signs shall be regularly repositioned in order to warn drivers about upcoming lane closures immediately after they pass the last exit before traffic backups.

Driving through constructions zones with upcoming lane closures is a popular game in NM. It’s called the "speed up and pass as many cars as you can, then see how close to the lane closure you can squeeze back into traffic before hitting any of the orange construction barrels" game.
Yeah could be... unfortunately it sounds like people still have problems after the new parts because the washers warp under load and the joints egg out. Back to square one... what to do what to do?

Tony,
I've got the solid nylatron bushings in my 2.63" ballsitic joints, almost have 3,000 miles on them. So far all I have had to do, is keep them greased with moly fortified grease and tighten them up. I would think if you let them get loose and they stay loose, that's when they egg out.
Just my experience with them so far....

Meh, the last thing I want to be doing is pulling my links every couple months to tighten them up... I don't know what suspension setup you have, but pulling any one of the links from a 3 link makes the whole axle want to flop forward or backward... usually requires throwing blocks on front and back of the front tires, then putting jacks under the pinion and the tie-rod to keep it all from flipping backward or something.
I think I may just get something else... probably worth the money.

Oh, you have the ballistic wrench don't you?
I made a custom spanner wrench, (like used on angle grinders) to tighten mine without removing the links if I want to. Comes in real handy.
Something like this: but with welded pins instead of bolts....

Nah I don't have the spanner wrench from them... I wasn't counting on needing it in 1000 miles
It's very tempting to order the midwest control heims, at least for the axle end... that's the end that seems to take the biggest beating.
I need to go poke around the Jeep again and see how long the heim will have to be... Midwest control heims w/ the 1.25" shank and 1.0" hole(which will use a 5/8" bolt w/ misalignment spacers) are 4-1/8" from the center of the bore to the tip of the threads where it starts to thread in. They're 4340 chromoly so I think strength should be fine... The Ballistic joints are rated at a ridiculous 238,000 psi tensile strength IIRC... doesn't mean squat if they get wallowed out like a dirty pirate hooker after a few miles and light wheeling.
I think I'll get the rebuild kits for my frame side Ballistic joints, and get some big heims for the axle end.

Hey man out here in Tennessee. I love the build updates. I absolutely love the ghetto reservoir and the sandlot plug. I get final word tomorrow on salary and instructor pay. Unfortunately, you are looking at a future resident of Tennessee. My ghetto exhaust clamp still wins though

What part of Tennessee? I think that Aetna Mountain is in TN IIRC... Do a youtube search for Morris Mountain, Aetna Mountain, and Horsepower Hill... pretty crazy stuff
Eventually may be due for a visit if that's the case
