OF course the problem with tire specific fenders is the need for new ones should he get those 42"

I can't believe no one has thrown up pictures of Peterson's "fun buggy" during this whole fender discussion (unless they did and I missed it )

Those are all some cool ideas, I think to get it back on the road(legally) as soon as possible I'll make some removable marker light extensions. Or I'll put them on a pole that can fold backwards or something. I'm trying to sell the Crown Vic ASAP and get a small beater truck(for hauling axles around, etc).

I'm trying to start my own diff regearing/rebuilding side business, if anyone in the Hampton Roads area needs some diffs regeared shoot me a PM

I got my Yukon carrier bearing puller yesterday with all the clamshells to do anything from a D30 to a D80

So is the only issue with the side markers being body mounted? moving them out to the edge of the tires would make it street legal again?

I think you could rig up some folding arms that hold the side marker out above the tires and make it look fine when off road, just fold them and latch them against the body. Or if you want to keep them from getting damaged, put some quick connectors on the wires and make them detachable for when your offroad.

That's what I was thinking... Each light is held on w/ 2 screws, the one screw is grounded so I only have 1 wire that is needed to extend. If I take some thin walled 1/2 or 5/8" dia DOM and make a couple flanges I can make the connectors on the wires go through the tube, and I'll just have to undo 4 screws per light. Still a bit of a PITA but it would be much easier to store in the Jeep vs some big fenders. Only thing I'm concerned about is the sheetmetal on the body, I'll probably need to plate behind the extension mounts.

Another thing that just popped into my head is possibly making some removable light mounts that are mounted on the knuckles... basically the light will be suspended over the tires... should be pretty hard to notice unless you really look at it I just don't like the idea of having wires going down my suspension.

Lights on the knuckles would be pretty sweet. At night you would just see a floating light which would be sweet.

Yep.

The ground wire is fine how it was, in the wheel well(other side of the tub electrical connection) I had to cut the wire which was supplying power when brakes are applied, and spliced my one from my running lights into the connector.

Luckrider: my thoughts exactly I've got a gut feeling that I'll get pulled over for no tire coverage in the daytime until they see the lights.... then they'll make up another excuse to take MAH MONEHHSS!!!

I'm wondering if I would need to make the axle-mounted lights removable... I don't think there would be a huge chance of ripping them off... but you never know I guess.

Now you have to do it. I want to see the pics of the floating lights, and to read the story of you getting pulled over.

Ahh pretty creative. Are you using the red light or did you change the bulb?

This was the other idea i had but then i thought about the wiring. Although, you could just route the wires with your brake lines couldn't you? they would have the same chance of getting ripped off as your brakes lines.

I think it would look pretty cool if you had the light mounts hug the tire off of the knuckles. Paint them black and it would look like the light was just floating above the tire. I'd make them removable still just because i think they could still be ripped off while offroad. You could make it so the DOM or square tubing slips into something on the knuckle and just use a bolt and a wing nut to tighten it down. when you get to the trails just unscrew, slip out, and go wheeling

Ohhhh... you thought I used the 3rd brake light itself... I thought you were just talking about the wiring. I have an LED light from Autozone. It is all chrome and super ghey looking, you'll find it in the ricer aisle. I painted it black and it looks good now. Here are a couple pics from way earlier in my build thread for a closer look:

Have you seen my brake lines?

That's exactly what I was thinking as well... I'm thinking that welding a small portion about 6" tall to my high-steer arm and then make a beefy flange for it to attach to.

My only issue is to figure out how to bend the tube. I'm not sure if 1/2" would be sufficient... I'm thinking 3/4" to 7/8" and 1/16" wall. Reason being that the light is so far out, even though it's not heavy I don't want it sagging over time.

Yeah I thought you basically just faced it down and mounted it somehow. I like the way that looks though.
