I've been looking at the aev skid as well. How heavy is it ? Would it be a pain to remove if you had to drop the pan for something ? How bad would it be to remove for every day driving and then re- install for a wheeling trip? Awesome build by the way!

It's not really that heavy as I was expecting it to be. I didn't weigh it but I'd have to guess maybe 15-20lbs max? It wouldn't be a big pain to remove it for service to the oil pan, but it would get real old real fast installing and uninstalling it for every wheeling trip unless you go like once a year. IMO not enough weight to warrant removal for MPG. You're better off buying a Geo Metro for daily driving if gas is really hurting you that badly.

Heck you're nearby-ish, reserve a tent campsite at Arrowhead Campground for the weekend and join us! If I wasn't 5 hours away I'd go at least once to twice a month.

-----------------

For today's update, I finally got around to buying the tap and drill bit for the JKS quicker disco storage pins... Here are some short vids explaining why they are so freaking awesome.

Disconnecting

Reconnecting

I figured I'd post this up as when I was originally looking at buying them I wasn't 100% sure why they were supposedly so easy to disconnect and reconnect.

So the Uwharrie trip was absolutely fantastic, I've got some pretty cool photos and videos to share, but that will take a little while to get ready so for now here are a few teaser pics of my weekend

On Dickey Bell

After climbing Daniel

My Jeep posing again on Slab Pile w/ my fiance, Shaynea

Ready for a Friday night run on Wolf's Den and Dickey Bell

Dave being hard-core

and the guys in the Cherokee we met up with Saturday

It was an AWESOME trip, I went down a pretty hard line on Daniel, and definitely had some "" moments going down Kodak Rock. I've got a couple video clips of me getting some wheels in the air and Dave stalling 13 times on his way down Daniel. I'm waiting for the guys in the Cherokee to email me the videos and pictures they took so I can make a compilation again. They had some killer footage of my own Jeep, I was driving and my girl was riding with me so it wasn't exactly easy to video myself. In-Jeep footage just doesn't do some of the stuff justice.

looks great, i just got back last night from my trip up there, and i had a bast,
i think i also got a pic posing in the same spot on slab pile as you lol.
did you go up daniel too or just down it? going up is quite technical, but going down seems like it'd scary in some places

We went down first and yes I had some very scary moments... we went back up later in the day.

Well I got the photos off of Shaynea's camera from the Uwharrie trip, so check out the thread HERE for another 40 or so pics.

Also, yesterday we went to Oregon Inlet in NC to drive on the beach and just spend a lazy day, so here's a few pics:

Was hot as hell, but had a good time. I aired down to 8 psi and had no problems whatsoever floating on top of the sand or blowing a bead or anything. I was a little scared since I have skinny and aggressive tires, which is the worst you can have for sand but was pleasantly surprised.

Got my FT lift installed today (although they f'd up a bit) and took it off road to put it through it's paces.

Man, it's amazing at how much better the handling is with the new setup. (But GDI, those FT disco's chatter their asses off, lol.)

Well today I sprayed some U-Pol Raptor into my Jeep's tub... it turned out great! I'll be throwing the seats and stuff in tomorrow.
