A father and Son Build - 87 YJ
It has always been my dad's dream that one day we would do a frame off together. I went to college, got married, and moved away. Last year he was diagnosed with cancer. Two months later he bought this YJ. 1987 4.2L Auto 89,000 miles.
We didn't do any research. Hell, I didn't know that he was planning on buying anything, so he didn't know what to look for. Naturally it has all the typical issues and more. Seatbelt mounts/rockers, floorboards, windshield frame and hinge area, tailgate, frame rot rear shackle mounts and had been in an accident.
So first off he bought a big air compressor and I bought a welder. Then I started to disassemble.

Good luck with the build. That is pretty cool that you and your dad will get to do that project together. Have fun!

I'm really sorry to hear about your dad's cancer diagnosis, that's never fun.
I hope to see plenty of updates here, and if you ever need any help/advice, you know we're here to help! My Dad and I are working on my '88 YJ together, he can't do as much as he could before he was forced into retirement (medical disability), but he taught me everything I know, and he's been invaluable in helping me out.
Keep up the great work, and most importantly, have fun! A good place to look for a new tub (assuming you might consider replacing instead of repairing) is Craigslist. I found a couple of fiberglass ones and a steel one in good shape up here pretty cheap. You can find anything if you look hard enough!

I want to one day do this with my Boy. He is only 19mons so I have time. I adopted a 6YO (now 9YO) and I told him when he turns 13-14 we will go buy a vehicle and build it

Now we have the tub off the chasis.
Man these things like to rust. I think I washed 10lbs of mud out of my frame rails.
