Desert Sand TJ
4 Attachment(s)
Bought this TJ 3 weeks ago and have already done a decent amount to it.
I bought it knowing it needed a new radiator and steering gear box due to a small leak....but what i didn't see was the frame rust where the skid plate is bolted to the frame. We cut out the bad which was only on the bottom of the frame and welded in the new. We also put one inch spacers on the skid since I was lifting it.

Got the rough country 2.5 inch lift. It rides great and the install was pretty easy.

Came home tonight and noticed a nice puddle of coolant. Looks like water pump, so that is next.

Water pump done! I hope that I do not have to do that again anytime soon. Took about 20 minutes just cleaning the old gasket. Now all that is left to do is the steering box. It is a slow leak so I might wait a little while.

Just finished installing the Daystar 1 inch body lift. Install was pretty straight forward and gave me no problems until the radiator supports. Had to really work to get those new ones into place. Really happy with the stance of the Jeep now.

Next up is the Brown Dog 1 inch motor mount lift. It is -2 in Indiana right now. Not too warm in the garage......

All put back together. The 4wd indicator light on the dash is not coming on. I checked the linkage and everything looks OK. I'll mess with it on a day we don't have negative temps.

I warmed up and couldn't stop thinking about the 4wd problem. Went back out and turns out it was just a sensor on top of the T-case that was unplugged.

Nothing big, but replaced the lower radiator hose that had a slight leak. I also noticed on the passenger side of the engine had some oil on the block towards the back. Going to clean it up with some brake cleaner and try to see where it is coming from. Did the valve cover gasket this past summer, so I'm guessing it is the oil pressure sender.

Here is a pic of my old YJ. It took a lot to get it to this point. I do not miss the 2.5 engine.

Replaced control arms.... Had to cut the bolts on the front lowers to get them off. Wish I would have done it a lot earlier instead of wasting time trying to get them out. Really thinking about doing some tube fenders in the near future.

Finished up installing new control arms today. Rear arms were not seized and gave me little problem. Ordered new sway bar body bushings and sway bar disconnects.

What grade bolt did you use in the front lower CA? I can see all the marks

twhartman 03-08-2015 02:53 PM

Grade 8....The marks on the lower bolts are just from the por 15 I scraped off them when putting the socket on.

The time now is 06:10 PM.
