"DAT JEEP" Teenagers Build

Ok so to start off with i had started another thread but i didn't put any back story or a whole lot of info so i wanted to start a new fresh one.

Ok so first some back story, My name is Trey and i am 15 i play football and lacrosse for CSD. I live in a small town and really have nothing to do in my free time so i figured a jeep would be a good project and i have always liked jeeps. My jeep is named "DAT JEEP" in memory of my brother jake who took his life on 5/19/12. He was a great baseball player and his twin brother was the pitcher. After a good game he would always go up to twin and say "DAT BOYYYYY". He was a gear head an a chevy man he cared for his car like his child. Every moment i work on this jeep i think of him and how me and him would be doing it together.

I bought the jeep about a month and a half ago for $1275.

Step 1: take every darn thing apart and have it in a bunch of piece!

HardworkWorks 08-25-2012 09:12 PM

When i took it all apart i ran into some problems with bolts and all but nothing to bad. Tons of rust but nothing i can handle. I picked up a all new front end for 125$ so that was big savings and i can get all the floor pans and rockers and rear corners.

Also picked up a T-18i with a dana 20. Everything in the transfer is brand new and the tranny has been completely gone over and rebuilt aswell. It came with and amc bellhousing that wont fit my motor but thats not a huge deal. Btw if anyone is interested in the bellhousing its your for 80$. Well here it is.

I found out my frame was bent. But thats ok i picked a good one up for 100$ and blasted and wire wheeled it and it came out nice. Also added extended shock mounts. I am not sure if my pro comp e3000 shocks will work now but i was given a complete life off a 2006 f250 and the shocks are big but not to big and there still in great shape so i might get lucky.

Made good progress today, got rear leafs attached, got diff cover taking off. Which gave me an issue on about 3 bolts so i had to break up the map gas and they came right out. When i opened it up i was very pleased with what i found. The gears looked great. Then it was on to taking out the axles which were supposed to come right out. But as all jeepers know nothing ever happens as planned. After beating and banging with a hammer and screw drivers and big old wood shims i was fed up. I grabed the 5 pound rubber malet told my dad to stand back took aim and swung. Sure enough out came the axle. I also cute the ild bearing with a dremal yo get off the backing plate givin the fact i dont have a press. With the 2 plates and 2 protects and diff cover of to blast and paint i went. That is the extent of my progress for the day but i have everything figured out so all i have to do is get the new bearings pressed and finish up, then its on to breaks.
