I attached them temporarily with self tapping screws, just to see if I like them there or not. Eventually, I will construct a frame that they can sit on. What kind of interior pics did you want? The dash is totally stock, apart from the CB where the radio used to be (See Photo). The rest of the interior is stripped down to metal, which I still have to prep and paint. The dash will likely be torn apart once the rainy season starts, meaning the doors and side curtains will be on to hide the mess that I'm gonna make! Also, I need to redesign the door handle latches(See Photo), they are not up to par with me as far as keeping the doors securely closed when driving faster than 40mph. Both doors almost blew away when a gust of wind bombarded us coming back from Tahoe! Things on my to do list the next couple of weekends... -Jake

Oh I just meant the interior of the tool box to show how they attached. But you answered that question quite clearly. Thanks.

Any thought of using some old Toyota FJ40 door handles and latches?
It's been said, but it's worth repeating--AWESOME JEEP |

Thanks for the advice (And the praise)! Those are definitely in my "maybe" list! Is there a handle on the outside as well?
I played around with photoshop the other day, trying to make an old folded up 1940's picture of my jeep. What do you guys think of my first attempt? Keep in mind I have no Photoshop experience prior to this, so be nice... -jeyk ![]() |

Looks great so far, don't forget to save room for the 50 cal. Browning MG. Keep the thread going with your progress. My next project is a para-Military Scrambler modified to simulate a FAV, (Fast Attack Vehicle).

In response to jerryjeeper, I do plan to make some kind of mount for a machine gun (Non Op of course) when I'm farting around in parades. In fact, ALL jeeps should have BFG's mounted somewhere on their jeep! Here's a link to a cool website if anyone's interested...

Wow, I don't know how I have missed the thread all summer, that is one amazing project you have going on. Great ideas too, I love that custom soft-top, tube flares and everything else looks great.

Tackling the dash
Well, I finally found some m38 window latches on Ebay, so I decided to start tearing apart the dash to get it ready for my next project within a project. The dash came apart pretty easy, except where the passenger airbag was located. You have to get to 6 internal nuts to get the dash separated. Anyways, in case you were wondering what a TJ looks like without a dash. There's a lot more room than you think:
![]() I think I might have a problem with the steering coluum as far as changing the wheel is concerned, but not a biggie. I can always get an Ididit aftermarket coluum... I do like where the A/c outlet is, all I need are some junkyard vents underneath the dash to give it that oldschool feel: ![]() The greatest thing about this is the fact that the jeep started up without a hitch. I was afraid that it wouldn't start because of the airbags being disconnected, like some other vehicles do. Now off to the jeep wrecking yard to sell my airbags and possibly trade my old dash for an even older (M38) dash! -Jake |
