New Pics!

Okay, just so there's no buildup of dissappointment, there's no new dash pics. However, There's some cool pics of a few things I've needed for a long time.

The first is an extra large secure tool chest to put all my stuff when I go on trips. The Delta box fits perfectly between the front seat & jack. I chose to mount it on the drivers side, so it's easier to access by my copilot, when we're on the road & moving. I kept the interior of the box white, to see things easier inside. The top lid will eventually be stencilled depicting an ordinance box, or having medical supplies.

This last image shows how much room I still have for something else I might do in the future... a spare tire mounted inside.

Here's my shovel and ax securely mounted. Notice the handles and hinges are also painted olive drab, finally.

And here's a much needed item for night driving.

It's a Unity spotlight I found at a local antique shop. I talked them down to 15 bucks because of the shoddy wiring and missing parts. When I got home, I rewired it and made an inside mount out of scrap metal. It works great! I decided to mount on the passenger side for 2 reasons. One, my cousin would have something to do (look for large boulders) when we're driving through mud in the middle of the nowhere at 11 o'clock at night, & Two, because would probably misuse it if it were closer to me when I'm driving alone.

This pic shows how I'll keep it when I'm in town or not using it. It will protect the glass, plus keep me from getting a ticket. Eventually, it will have a cover.

The Unity spotlight website shows that you can basically buy any part for the older & newer models. Getting a new handle cap is on the list.

"LCOG" isn't cheap and it certainly isn't easy. If you think so, you are doing it wrong. If you aren't willing to put in the effort, don't label your build "LCOG". You are just a cheap ******bag.

I like the spotlight

I had a 78' Powerwagon back in the eighties and mounted a spot like that on it. There used to be a scrap yard closed to my home that was nothing but militarty vehicles (L&L Jeep). I was pulling some suspension parts from an old Dodge ambulance for my Powerwagon. The ambulance had the spot mounted through the roof, so I figured it would look good on my truck. It looked just like that one and worked great. For nighttime wheeling everyone should have one of those. They are very handy.

Your project is coming along good. Keep up the great work.

I recently painted my 97 TJ with the same paint you did. It looks pretty good but I struggled with over spray. Did you have that problem. If not, how the heck do you avoid it. This flat paint seems to want to dry the second it leaves the can.
Love the spotlight.

Love the spotlight.
The overspray should wash/wipe off if it gets on other things. But I'm thinking maybe you are painting too big an area without enough ventilation. I would paint it in sections, masking off everything else.

Hope you don't mind, I posted your spotlight setup in my thread as an example for some folks:

http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f59/police-spotlights-your-jeeps-877679/index2.html#post8321497

Looks really good! I'm mounting mine this weekend. I was going to paint it flat black, but after seeing yours, I may go OD green.

Also, how did you mount your rearview mirror? I scanned through previous pages, but I didn't find anything about it. I'm fed up with mine coming un-glued from the windshield all the time, and your setup looks like the perfect alternative! Any pics?

I made the mount from aluminum. The rear view mirror has a nut/bolt setup, so all I had to do was drill a hole in the mount. Then the whole assembly was bolted to the window frame via self tapping screws. Here's a web site to buy the mirror ($10.00): Military Stencils by Rick Larsen

I like the skinny tires myself....but I'm having trouble finding tall slim tires for 15" wheels. Quite frustrating.

I just noticed your gas cap/cover. I don't remember if you said where you got that. It looks sharp.
Where might I purchase one?
