Connor's 1996 Jeep ZJ

Figured it's time to finally start a build thread for my first car and jeep. About 6 years ago I fell in love with my uncles yj and hoped that he would sell it to me when I got my license. He was too attached to it, but said I could have his Comanche. The Comanche unfortunately is still in pieces so I ended up with my uncles old zj that my parents had bought as a second car back in 2005. It's a 1996 4.0 42re with the 249 transfercase. Here's a picture of it when I got it last March 2014.

First thing I did were some audio upgrades. My factory radio had really bad reception so I picked up a sony headunit from my friend. Got it installed and still had bad reception. Found out my antenna connection under the passenger dash was disconnected. Plugged it in and the radio worked great. A week or so later I picked up a kicker tc10 subwoofer and 400 watt alpine amp and got that installed as well.

How deep into the dash is the area that was disconnected? I replaced my head unit yesterday and ended up just leaving the antenna detached. Nice truck.. What are your plans?

Next I did some long overdue maintenance. Did an oil change, put some cheap shocks on to get me by and replaced my tailpipe after it rusted through.

It was tucked up by the passenger kick panel, under the glove box, there is a thread on it somewhere on here. I've had the truck for a year now so I've done a lot of things to it, I'm trying to post in order and then get to where it currently is.

Then one day I was bored at work so I flexed the jeep out stock like a typical 17 year old jeeper

Then I realized if I was going to wheel it I needed tow points. I got some tow hooks from a member on here, found a hitch locally and ordered a receiver shackle from iron rock offroad.

I was never a big fan of the gold trim so I plastidipped the rims black. I also installed a magnaflow muffler around the same time to give the 4.0 a deeper tone.

Then in the middle of July 2014 the 42re started acting funny. It would start in 3rd in drive so I had to manually shift it 1-2-D. Drove it like this for a couple days then brought it to a mechanic. Drove my uncles pickup for a couple weeks. The trans ended up needing a rebuild so $2000 later I had my jeep back.

Next thing I did was a budget boost. I picked up some 2.25in coil spacers for the front and some 2in coil spacers for the back. I also picked up a np242 to get rid of my failing np249. I installed the lift kit when it arrived, but I haven't swapped the transfercase yet because I've been busy with 2 jobs and school.

Now ill skip to my favorite upgrade so far, 265/75/15 (31in) cooper discoverer at3's on 15x8 procomp rockcrawler d-windows with 3.75 backspacing. These rims and tires gave my jeep the stance I wanted and are great for street and offroad use.
