Sounds like an idea worth entertaining.

Don't forget to update your profile to show the new 9's.

If you have the fab skills and facility to get those axles in and set up so quickly, a stretch shouldn't pose much of a challenge to you. All I've heard is that the extra wheelbase makes wheeling significantly better, and with your already wider track width, you should have a well planted rig. Just some food for thought.
I thought about using the 435 but I really need a 5th gear being this is my daily driver. and the gearing difference in-between gears in drastic. ive driven 4 speed pickups and being they have low end torque its fine but with a 4 cylinder I think it would suck

Agreed on the 2.5 with the 4 speed. In my case, even with the 1:1 ratio in 4th gear, I'm fine because I now have a v8 and 37's. My math tells me it will be at a decent rpm at highway speed, not that I plan on risking my life on the highway with this thing

What gearing are you running in your axles. I looked more into the 435 and other than it not having overdrive it actualy has more pratical gearing than the zf5 2-4th

My axles are 4.11:1

Upgraded 30 up front and an 8.8 with welded tubes in the rear.

I wouldn't have gone with the 435 if I didn't have the V8. those extra cylinders and cubes to keep rpm down.

I looked all over the internet today. Ive come the the conclusion that im going to use the ax15 i found all the adapter plates. Ill be using a ford truck bellhousing mated to a 2.3 to ford small block adapter and a 5.0 flywheel with a 2.3 bolt pattern. And the ax15 will be mated as if i would be using a small block ford.

Mating the d300 to the ax15 goes as followed: north west fab cable shifters and flip ring/adapter

So 3 adapters needed......if my math is corrext ill be able to get away with the length of this combo

after searching for a week I have found and engine and I picked it up this weekend for $280 its a 2.3l turbocharged engine from a 1988 ford thunderbird turbocoupe. stock it makes 190hp and 240ftlbs.

I will be pulling it apart and rebuilding what needs to be rebuilt. 3 angle valve job, head gasket, timing belt, new rings, crank/rod bearings.

more pictures to come during the teardown.

so looking into doing a 4:1 d300 and I didn't want to have that as my low range all the time, my gearing now is perfect for trail riding but too high of gearing on the rocks so I have come across an underdrive made by behemoth called the strong box, it utilizes the stock 231 planetary gears and combined with the dana 300 low range It will give me a 7.12 low gear or a 2.72 or a 2.62 so basically a 3 speed atlas for $600 plus whatever the tcase costs me. the unit they make is only 4" or so long so it will still be shorter than a np231 with an sye

im going to order a jeep 2.5 from jasper engines for now. I have the money and I would rather have a running jeep for the summer than a large paperweight in my shop. also I want to rebuild the 2.3 ford engine and put some performance internals (rods, piston, cam). the dana 300 and the underdrive unit will most likely be installed over the summer before the ax15 and the 2.3 are even thought about.

ill be posting some pictures when I swap the 2.5 out for the rebuild one I a couple of weeks.

Is that Jasper engine just a stock rebuild? Be careful of sticking any kind of real power in front of that AX-5, they are famous for being wimpy. I'm curious to see more about this transfer case mod you are looking at. Love to get more gear out of mine, but LoMax is the only real option I've found.

the engine is rebuilt. all wearable internals are replaced. the ax5 is getting tossed when the turbocharged engine goes in.

I thought about doing a lomax but I love my 2.72:1 low and with having more gear ratios im better prepaired to go anywhere. here's a little bit more information on the underdrive I want to get http://www.behemothdrivetrain.com/ST...RIVE_KITS.html

I just had a look at that, and think I'll give him a call. Looks like a very cool setup that will solve a bunch of issues I have in connecting up my drivetrain. Triple sticking looks pretty cool too!
