The red headed stepchild YJ build

got some shots of the jeep with the tires on last night, what a difference in apperarance. 4.10s and the 2.5 is fine around town, I took it up to 60ish and I was at 2k rpms in 4th gear, no acceleration at all.

The axle swap

I pulled the jeep into my shop and started the teardown on Saturday morning. hoping I would get it done sunday night.....that dident happen.

my ubolts were fairly new so I dident have to cut them off. the d35 did not want to come off the springs! like it almost knew I was getting scrapped.

removed the front

I ran into an issue with the front drivers side spring mount, when I ordered my axle I had given many measurments and I guess I was off a little with the placement of the pumpkin, my trusty grinder helped as I took off as much as I could from the spring perch I eventualy removed enough so that it sit flush on the axle and spring.

I got the axle mocked up and tacked in place I checked the steering and took some measurments for the drag link.

mounted the front, cut the ubolts down

so I ended up having some problems, keeping in mind I have to have this finished by mid next week....

1. I have two different spindles (don't ask my how this happened) somehow the d44 parts axle I bought had a large bearing spindle on the passenger side that I belive to be off a f250
2. missing some locknuts for the wheel bearings
3. still need upper shock mounts for the rear. im thinking of going with ford f250 front upper mounts

the only spindles I have found are going to take a week to ship, im going to call some places and see if they can ship it in a day or two

Check east Coast Gear, they seem to have pretty good parts stock, and can ship quick. I have a pile of stuff to order from them Thursday, they promised me a couple days to Florida.

I called wild horses 4x4 in cali and got 2nd day air at almost the same price as most places for just a spindle itself. so my spindle and nuts should be here Thursday. im going to button up as much as I can before it gets here so I can throw it together and hit the road.

I got the steering knuckles off the parts axle with help from my big friendly hammer, i reemed the knuckles and the pitman arm to accept the 1 ton tre's.

i used the steering off the d44 parts axle as a guideline as to how wide my tie rod had to be, as for the drag link i put the tie rod end in the knuckle and in the pitman arm and measured the distance between the two. i gave the tie rod and drag link tubes and tube ends to the guy who works next door and he welded them up (he owed me some favors).

i mocked up the steering today and everything lined up well, using the stock pitman arm with the otk setup brought me almost back to stock.
