did the shock mounts yesteday...

I might re-build the upper mounts to space the body of the shock down slightly. the shock has about 1.5" of up-stroke left when I hit the bumpstops, and I can't really go up any further without re-working the steering box and trackbar, but I could easily use that extra inch on the downstroke....

time will tell...

did a little work on the transfercase skid.

started with a 2'x4' piece of HR 1/4" and a cardboard template.

cut the piece I need 18"x38.5"


marked out where to cut reliefs and notches


cut said reliefs and notches.


a shot with the cardboard template I made.


now It needs to go to a shop to get 2 3* bends across the length of it, then the transfercase relief bent, then the tramsission bolt box relief will be bend. then it will get the gussets welded in, the tie-in points, and some holes drilled for drainage.

I still haven't figured out how I am going to get a skid under the transmission.
I'm thinking a piece of aluminum with a relief for the driveshaft, and somehow tie it into the UCA mounts or motor mounts...

That sounds really complicated... I don't own an XJ though, so maybe that's normal for you guys??

a lot of people don't skid the transmission, it sits up higher than TJ/YJ guys...

I want something under there...not sure how to do it.

thanks man.

got home front the junkyard and there was a paycheck waiting for me

that means its time for steering!
I am unhappy with my inverted T and OTA trackbar, so I'll be going to a more stock length trackbar and a currie steering with the tie-rod flip.

for what I am doing with this jeep it should be a great setup. when it comes time for an axle swap I will go with crossover and most likely a 3 link. but that is in the future... I need to get this thing back on the trail!

did some poser flex to check the new shock length.
learned some things
1. need longer limit straps
2. need to re-work the upper mounts, I have about 2" of droop. I'm not using
3. I need to shorten my rear driveshaft
4. fenders really will self clearance.

limi straps maxed, shock has about 1" left of down, and at full bump about 1.5" of shaft showing.


I think I need longer coils

driveshaft is a little too long

The Currie 4-4.5" lift coils are ridiculously long. Even with my shocks unbolted, no bump stops installed, the steering linkage removed, and me standing on the brake rotor (200lbs) there still wasn't enough droop to get the Currie springs installed without using a spring compressor.

Notched the shock mounts for the control arms? All the rest doesn't matter....the control arms are limiting you. If you've already notched them, then nevermind.
