Nice job so far. If I were to stretch again, I'd consider extending the frame like you're doing. I think its a very neat, clean way to do it. I'm really looking forward to seeing how yours turns out.

Finally making some good progress

I cut off the upper spring perchs while I had the frame out


After some grinding they fit like a glove

Got the frame together..man that was a pain by myself but I got creative with some jack stands

Got it all welded up


...But I forgot to add plug holes for the sides to get welded. I may use my 1/2 in hole saw and go slow

Tomorrow I'll get the perchs back on and the axle in to start the 4 link prep

Good stuff Kyle

I never really considered doing my stretch this way. I think I was a little apprehensive because I didnt know how a genright tank would mount after chopping the rear section off.

Thank Lou . I'm still trying to plan on how I'll do that but it shouldnt be hard. I might use the stock rear member or add some angle iron to my new bumper for the 4 mounting points in the rear of the tank.

Kyle that looks great man. The welding looks damn good. The plug welds are important IMO so I'm hoping you can get those in somehow. Also I was hoping you'd do your shock towers with the rear frame out. It would be much easier. Oh well. Did you cut out the crossmember? Whewww… you did a lot today!

Thanks Nate

I thought about doing all that with the frame out but wasn't feeling confident that it would match up right so I'll do it after the 4 link. I left the crossmember in for now just to keep things square. I'll cut it out tomorrow before I do the perchs and then I'll weld in a new on for the body mounts. I just might reuse it for the sake of keeping the work load down.

Sounds good Kyle, just so you know though, that crossmember is double walled and a mother f-er to cut out. It's a VERY substantial crossmember so Jeep must have done that for a reason. I know a part of the reason is that the shocks mounts to it but I figured it was fairly crucial to keeping the frame from twisting. Anyways…. you need some kind of crossmember there, and if it's any less stout than that factory one, I would supplement that with a stronger crossmember at the very rear, like what I did, or similar.

If you trust your welds I wouldn't bother with drilling to plug weld. A beefy rear crossmember by bumper should do the trick just fine.

The welds have some good penetration but just for added peace of mind I'll put some plug welds in since I'll be grinding the welds down for appearances

Nice progress Kyle, I think it was a smart move to not weld in the shock towers yet since you do not know where the axle will end up yet or how up and down travel works out with the relocated spring buckets. Same goes for that crossmember On my Jeep I simply cut a chunk out of it to get needed clearance and added a second crossmember. I prefer to get things done with the least amount of work

Yeah now that I think about it, it was probably smart not to cut in the shock tower. Maybe if you had measured it out before dissasembly. I was just thinking about how easy the cutting and welding would be out of the rig. haha.
