Went to Richmond today, and $150 got me this:

HP30 from an '87 MJ. It's dirty on the outside, but inside is perfect. 3.07 gears, but it's getting installed at the same time I regear, so... It is vacuum disconnect, but 50 bucks to get rid of that is fine by me. The control arm mounts are beefy as hell; on the TJ they're welded brackets, these things are solid metal.

The ball joint has certainly seen better days... I'll be replacing these with XRF ball joints before I install it in the Jeep.

Thanks for the offer, but the vac housing will be stronger than a regular HP30 after I'm done with it. I'm regearing to 4.88, so the gears really don't matter. If for some reason this axle ends up not working though, I'll definitely keep that one in mind!

Starting to get really peeved at this new axle... It's old enough that the knuckle and the hub are fused together with rust... And I can't get the ball joints out for the life of me. I'm going to have to pick up a ball joint puller from Autozone tomorrow, and hope that I can use it without removing the axle shafts first. If not, I'm gonna have to start cutting stuff. I really hate rust.

A little bit of Savviness...

The rear bumper looks fantastic. It'll do away with my tire carrier, so I need to work out a new mount for my CB antenna and reverse lights before I install it. The frame tie-ins are incredible; see those gussets? I've never seen that much thought put into frame tie-ins.

The corner guards look great, except... Well, I'm sure you can see what my problem is. It's written in red. It seems my driver side guard was bent with the red on the outside; I'll either have to paint them or grind it off. I hadn't decided whether to paint them or not, but this looks like it's pushing me in that direction... Before I consider any of that though, I need to cut the wheel well out a bit to match the extended wheel well of my Metalcloak flares, and get the generic mounting kit for the flares.

If I didn't already tell you, I hate you. Anyways, what are you going to do for a tire carrier now? And what are your plans for your old rear bumper/tire carrier?

Going to keep my tire inside the Jeep until Savvy comes out with one. As far as the old one... No idea. Why, you want it?

Haha yep! Give me call, we can talk about it offline. And I think I'm gonna have to cancel for this weekend... The Jeep's having some issues I've been unable to track down. Taking it to the shop tomorrow to see if they can figure it out.

I'll let you know if Jake decideds not to take it. Even if he wants it though, he has another that he's replacing; so you might be able to score his old one.
