The lights look pretty sick. When you get them on give us the light shots against a wall. Don't forget to adjust them too.

After scraping off as much snow as I could, I got the chance to inspect the hood of the XJ today... Doesn't look good, but it should still be an easy fix; if I decide to keep it blue, I have a buddy who does amazing paint work. If not, sanding + rattlecan is easy enough.

Get the spray handle for the rattle cans. It will pay for itself after the first can; ask me how I know.

I actually tried one of those handles, and hated it... It didn't work very well at all for me, and I threw it away. Maybe I just got a crappy one, I dunno.

Regretfully, I haven't actually taken delivery yet; I'm visiting my brother this weekend, so I got to inspect the Jeep while I'm here. I discovered that it has the 231 transfer case, not the 242, and a Chrysler 8.25 instead of a D35... I'm quite pleased at both of those. The interior looks to be in pretty decent shape, and it has stock fogs. Looks like it has everything I hoped for! Not sure when it will officially be mine; waiting on my dad's new Subaru to arrive...

Sounds like its gonna be nice. My mom has a 99 XJ sport....im waiting for her to get a new car so I can start to mod the XJ

That is cool. I would rather have the full time for snow, but since you don't get much of that and because it is going to be a trail rig, te 231 is better to have. The 8.25 is supposed to be a beast.

Here is to hoping your dad's Subaru comes quickly. Do you have an air compressor? If so I suggest picking up a cheap $30 spray gun. After 1 gallon of paint and thinner (learn from my mistake, make it as thin as water), it will quickly pay for its self. Just remember, oil based gets mineral spirits, latex gets paint thinner. I would personally suggest the Rustoleum oil based, but it is about $30/gallon. You could do a great looking paintjob for about $100 including the price of the gun. We got out cheap gun from Biglots, and it shoots well. You just have to clean it out well.

Thanks for the advice! I don't have a compressor big enough to paint with, but I can always rent or borrow one, if I don't buy one... I do have a siphon-fed paint gun, and have a buddy with a nice gravity-fed gun. I can actually get a pro job for the price of paint and a case of beer though, it's just that since it will be a trail rig, I'm not sure I I want it to look quite that pretty!! If I did that, I'd go with rescue green though; it's the only Jeep color I like better than the khaki I have on the TJ.

What do you think? Rescue green on an XJ?

Edit: talked to my buddy... $400 to paint the whole thing rescue green.

Well what size compressor do you have, we run our 5 gallon at 60psi (shoots at 42) and it can keep up fine. You could run it at 30psi and get a nice spray out of it.

I also say the rustoleum because it is a trail rig. It won't rust as easily. The rescue green would look sweet. I love the color on just about everything except a JK.

Mine's only a 3 gallon; don't have room for anything bigger at the moment. I've got access to a 12 gallon tank when I want it, but... My buddy paints BMWs for a living, and he's offered to do it for only $400 (paint costs). This thing's in such great shape, after seeing it, I've decided it deserves to look good. Trail rigs can still be pretty... For a bit!

Found a few pics of a rescue green XJ... I won't paint the bumper, there will be NO CHROME, and the flares and cladding will be black, but... It's some idea.






I actually really hate the way his Jeep looks... But if my flares, cladding, mirrors, door handles, wheels, and bumpers are black, and the grille is body matched, with the windows tinted, I think it'll upset the solid green enough to look good. All the chrome on that thing just make it look... glitzy. Opposite of Jeep.

A little fun in Photoshop... looks a LOT better. I was kinda scared about using this color after seeing that other XJ, but if it turns out like this, it'll look great!!

Thry this color for the cladding and rims. I think it is some silver color. Talk to IIVIIonster03 or IIVIIonster04 what color it is.


I think it will work with the green a little better. The black still works better than the green alone.

Looks like Argent to me... Too bad they don't make it in beadlock yet

I'm going with black steelies though, at least to start. The wheels I photoshopped in were just what picture I had on hand.
