Damn. That's pricey. I built mine for around $500....

I paid 4k for fully built JK axles.

for 900-1000$ more there could have been a Currie Hp44 rockjock that uses the new JK larger gear set, and 3" tubes, etc. I guess its more money, but just seems like it would have been 20% more for 50% more axle, and held its value for ever really. That HPD30 will only be worth about 1000-1700K at most if you ever want to upgrade. The Currie would be at 3K at least.

But at least the D30 will be ok with 35's with all you put in to it...

Yea but mine doesn't require and fab work, just turning some wrenches.

I looked into the 44 and I juts couldn't justify the cost for what I plan on doing. When you look at how much gears, install kit, locker, blah blah would have cost to just add to my LP30 the HP was only $200-300 more. Plus I'll be selling the LP w/ Aussie to local student. I honestly don't ever see this Jeep going bigger than 35s. Plus I'm not going to sell the TJ, it'll be my son's some day (or daughter I suppose). 24 years from now

The HP30 didn't require any fab work.

But the JK44 did. I'm still in school, I'll save the big stuff for when I'm married and I'll build up the wife's JKU.

I only mentioned the jk44s because the pair of fully built ones were 1k more than your HP30.

Try a junkyard. Build it gradually and save $$.

Eh maybe in the future. While I have people's attention, is it just my TJ or does the gas pedal on y'all's sit a good bit lower than the brake pedal? I can pull it up to about even with the brake pedal but it falls right back down a couple inches.

It's designed that way so you don't hit the gas when you step on the brakes.

Alright guys I'm having second thoughts here. The HP30 has a Detroit full case soft locker, done. The rear locker hasn't been ordered yet and I was thinking this might not be a bad time to get OBA and put a selectable in the rear. I'm not really worried about the soft locker for on road use, it's the OBA I would like. I don't usually get to air down because most parks don't have air stations. I don't necessarily have the extra money right now, but my birthday is in May so I will get probably the extra I need to get the Arb then. So the question:

Detroit full case soft locker = $670
OR
Arb air locker + High out put compressor $1040 + $275 = $1300

or am I better off just getting a CO2 tank to air the tires?

Would you consider a seperate OBA set up and different locker? You could probably do it cheaper that way unless youre looking for a selectable.

Ran a Detroit rear for 3 years In a 5spd and hated it.

You're one of the few people I've heard that doesn't like the Detroit in the rear. From what I under stand the auto vs 5spd makes a difference.
