Built In The Rain

The Life and Story of my 2001 Wrangler Sport
This is a late build thread as I did most of my upgrades before I started a build thread, so starting now...
Hope you all enjoy

Currently

Armor:
Rock Hard front winch bumper
LoD rear Signature bumper with swing out tire carrier and recessed rear lights (don't ever buy a LoD product)
Stock black diamond plate sliders (next on my "to go" list)
Poison Spyder steering box skid

Suspension & Tires:
2.5" Rancho Rock Crawler Extreme Duty kit with 5100 Shocks
Pro Comp Steering Stabilizer (bashed the stock one)
32x11.5" Maxxis Bighorns on 15" pro comp black steel rims

Engine/Transmission/Transfer Case:
AEM cold air intake (don't say a word)
Dynomax cat-back exhaust kit

Interior & Electronics:
Uniden CB with firestik
Aftermarket Sony stereo and speakers
Weathertech floor mats
Custom Cell phone holder on/in dash

Recovery:
Smittybilt x2o 8,000lb winch
Smittybilt snach block and tree saver/strap
Pro Comp 20,000lb tow strap
Assorted D shackles, and a 30yo Hi-Lift

I have installed everything myself minus the lift kit. At the time, this Jeep was my only mode of transportation and I couldn't afford to be without a means to get to work. Therefore I plan on doing most if not all of my future plans myself. I also have a 1989 YJ which is nothing more then a chick magnet and cruiser at this time. Although I am not working on making plans for it right now have no fear, I refuse to get rid of it. But back the TJ, I bought it in 2009 with just under 90k miles on it and since then i have had the engine rebuilt and the odometer now sits somewhere around 185k. The mechanic (who was actually a neighbor of my parents, and old retired army mechanic who builds/restores hot rods as a hobby) said that my cam had worn a lobe/lug down to the shaft. His best guess at the time was that someone (i.e. previous owner) had not been using the correct oil as well as putting some kind of additive in the gas (this was around 145k miles). Since then, my little sport has run like a top and has never suffered any other mechanical damage.

Due to lack of funding, my build has been stalled for some time. Which leaves me LOTS of time to think up what exactly i am going to do with this Jeep. Though my plan has changed a lot, i have managed to come up with a list of things that would make this into my ideal/perfect machine.

Future Plans:
Currie AntiRock
New front bumper (Mercenary GT)
35" tires
SYE and new rear driveline (tom woods?)
Install 1/2" body lift (Rokmen)
Low clearance skid (Rokmen)
Install 1" MML (Brown Dog)
Flat fenders, (Rokmen Highlines? PSC?)
New sliders (most likely Rokman)
Rear full corner armor with new flares (PSC? Rockman? Genright?)
Flush mount tail lights
Full cage
Full set of control arms (uppers and lowers) (Rokman? Metalcloak? Currie?)
50" Rigid along top of windshield

Relocated my CB antenna mount. Installed my "custom" bracket that I made.

My FedEx package finally came from Rokmen!
I ordered they're 1/2 inch body lift kit as well as their shift knob with the new design. Body lift won't be installed until next weekend and the shifter linkage is here as well, but here are some shots of the shift knob installed.

Just spent the better part of the day fighting my Tuffy series 2 back half speaker console. Tuffy supplied the worst instructions I've ever encountered. If you ever order a Tuffy product: read the instructions, take them under consideration, then go about the installation in your own fashion.

That will be the last thing I ever order from Tuffy. Okay not really, but damn I'm annoyed with the two page paper directions...

I like the shift knob, wish I would have held out for it. I got the old design.

Funny you say that, when I ordered it I was looking at the old style. Rokman accidentally billed me twice (computer error) so after quickly resolving the problem over the phone, they told me they threw in the "new" shift design! I hadn't even seen it till it showed up. I'm pretty happy with it.

Snagged a V8 ZJ tie rod (for free) and ordered new polyurethane grease cups for it.

Also did my brakes. Hawks pads. Used this write up:
