its awesome, doesn't have as much off idle *** has the 4.0, but one notch higher gears would change that. i still have plans of 5.38's for 37s. its one notch higher than anyone sane would think about.

how's the old 4.0 compared to a 2dr 3.8 and 3.8 4dr and the new 3.6?

I thought the 3.8 2 doors were pretty comparable to the 4.0 in an KH. The only real difference was the placement of horsepower and torque in the power band. It was adequate. The only 4 door 3.8 I drove had the 42Rle behind it and it was awful. My TJ on 37s was faster than it was. I've never had the opportunity to drive. Stick 3.8 4 door.
The 3.6 is a great little work of engineering though. It has good torque down low, but it still cannot best the 4.0 in that category. The best evidence of that was this. In my TJ, first gear was very rarely used at all on the street because it was so low. I think the only time I ever used first gear was when I was on a stopped incline waiting for a train.
With the 3.6 I try driving it the same way and I'll stall it 1 out of 10 times and I have to slip the clutch through about 1200 RPM to get it going. Now I have no idea if they changed the ratios in the transmission or it's the taller 32s, the extra weight of the 4 door or simply It not being an inline 6. But anything past about 1400 rpm is where the new motor really shines. Gobs of power. It's nuts
All that said though, I think the 3.6 mated with the automatic would cure the off the line torque complaint completely. That's an awesome setup if you can live with an automatic.

I'm pumped to see you with a Jeep again. I remember reading your thread way back when I joined the forum, used to think that thing looked like a monster truck with the 35s. Can't wait to see what this baby will turn out looking like.... no doubt it will be another untouchable spyder build!
Congrats!!!
