all wranglers have the aluminum 231 TC. it's a plenty strong TC. you could put a dana 300 in it, but it would be upside-down and you'd have to compensate for that by making your own shifter linkages and relocating the fill/drain bolts (or at least relocating the breather).
as for the clunking in reverse, are you saying that it clunks when you're putting it into reverse, or when it's already in reverse and you're moving? if it's the former, that's normal. just put it in a forward gear first for a second and then you should be able to get into reverse without issue. i believe the reason for that is (at least in my '98) the transmissions don't have a synchronized reverse gear. i'm not sure if this applies to you since you may have the peugeot BA 10/5, but IIRC the AX 5/15 don't have syncro'd reverse gears.
looking good so far- keep it up

Is it? because I get told all the time it's the ****ty one all the time an that seems like a pain in the *** to do! I think I just changed my mind haha. And t clunks when I'm already in reverse i can put it in reverse no problem it's once it's in reverse and I'm moving it clunks. My boyfriend and I just rebuilt the TC and we thought it was the loose chain sloping around in the case but we replaced te chain and bearings and now I'm thinking tranny issue but i just either use reverse for a quick second to get me goin then coast the rest of the back up or park to where I use it very minimally

A cute girl with a project jeep and enough time for a build thread?! WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN?! I went through your rebuilding process over the last year with my TJ and FINALLY got it in good enough shape to be able to spend money on cosmetics instead of tow trucks and parts! Just finished my 4.5" lift and 35s will be on next week. But your jeep looks great keep it up! I'm subscribed

Alright so I forgot ALOT of stuff in the beging of my thread! My engine rebuild! so i had really ****ty compression and no power at all! So my dad and I decided we needed to check out the cylinders the rings were bad he cylinder had a lip at the top from wear and tear so we had to cut the lip out or more of shave it out and then hone the cylinders replaceed the rings new gaskets and lapped the valves and new valve guides I think they are called drawing a big blank right now! Haha and new bearings and seals. A very basic rebuild. And that's all I can think of right now that was the vey first thing after my axel swap. I will add more when I can remeber!
